Stormzy Addresses Maya Jama Reunion Rumours As He Lands Historic British Vogue Cover

Stormzy has spoken out for the first time about his reunion with girlfriend Maya Jama.

The award-winning rapper and Love Island host first began dating in 2015, but went their separate ways in 2019.

In the years that followed, they repeatedly shut down rumours about them reuniting, only to finally be photographed holding hands while on holiday together over the summer.

While fans were overjoyed at seeing the pair together again, they have both remained tight-lipped on the subject.

This included during Stormzy’s recent interview with British Vogue, during which he explained why he and the former Radio 1 star have opted to keep things private this time around.

“We were so public the first time round, somewhere down the line my spirit started resisting… so I’m not gonna speak on it,” he told the magazine.

On the photos of them on holiday, the Vossi Bop musician added: “We were just living la vida loca. Lapse of judgement for an hour!”

Last year, Stormzy referenced his and Maya’s break-up on his chart-topping third album This Is What I Mean.

He later opened up about the split during a sit-down interview with Louis Theroux, saying: “My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man. It was like, OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you.

“That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have.

“The whole fucking palaver that surrounded that situation, do you know what I mean? There were other things in terms of mistakes I’d made. I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate love, and care for his woman.”

As well as his new interview, Stormzy is one of several Brits to appear on the cover of British Vogue’s December issue.

In doing so, he’s made history as the first British man to land a solo cover for the magazine (American actor Timothée Chalamet is the only other male cover star for British Vogue, as of September 2022).

The December issue of British Vogue is available via digital download and on newsstands from Tuesday 21 November. Read Stormzy’s full interview here.

Stormzy And Maya Jama Spark Reunion Rumours As They’re Snapped Holding Hands On Holiday

Stormzy and Maya Jama are at the centre of speculation they’re back together after they were seen holding hands while on holiday in Greece.

The award-winning rapper and Love Island host were previously in a relationship for four years, before going their separate ways in 2019. In the years since, they’ve repeatedly been rumoured to have reunited, which they have previously always denied.

Over the weekend, the rumour mill went into overdrive when fans began to suspect that Stormzy and Maya were on holiday together, after their followers began to pick up on some similarities between the pair’s social media posts.

A post from TikTok user Georgina Ball – which suggested Stormzy had “soft launched” the reunion – even racked up as many as 4.2 million views.

While neither Stormzy nor Maya commented on the speculation, the Daily Mail later published photos of them walking around Hydra Island together hand-in-hand.

In the pictures, posted on Sunday, the two are seen smiling as they walk through the town holding hands, in matching white ensembles.

After the photos were shared on Sunday, fans were quick to share their reactions over on X (formerly known as Twitter):

Maya Jama’s team had no comment when contacted by HuffPost UK.

Stormzy previously referenced his break-up from Maya on his third album This Is What I Mean, which reached number one upon its release last year.

The former Glastonbury headliner later opened up about the split during a sit-down interview with Louis Theroux.

“My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man,” Stormzy said. “It was like, OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you.

Stormzy Reflects On Maya Jama Split, Calling It ‘Biggest Loss’

Stormzy has opened up about his split from Maya Jama, admitting it was his “catalyst for growth as a man”.

The former couple split after four years together in 2019 with various headlines subsequently surrounding their break-up.

In a new interview with Louis Theroux (via The Sun), Stormzy said the split came after he made a “mistake”.

“My break-up, that was probably the biggest catalyst for growth as a man,” he said. “It was like, OK, you made a mistake and you lose someone you loved, someone you cared for, someone who is special to you.

“That’s probably the biggest loss a man can have, isn’t it? Away from someone passing away, that’s the biggest loss you can have.

“The whole f****** palaver that surrounded that situation, do you know what I mean? There were other things in terms of mistakes I’d made.

“I didn’t do what a man should do to fully appreciate love, and care for his woman,” added Stormzy, who has always denied any infidelity.

Stormzy continued: “Long story short, I learned that if I don’t want to feel like
that again, and if I believe that God will bless me again with an amazing woman and a family and marriage and all of that kind of thing, I have to do all the necessary work to never be in that situation again.

“I do want a family of my own and I want to get married and I want to settle.”

The grime star added that he has found it difficult to find love again due to interest in his dates.

“Any time I’ve had a date we’ve got to go through a back door at the
restaurant, otherwise people are going to blow up the poor girl’s life,” he said.

“I’m still trying to work out the solution. I’ll just wait for God to present me with my situation with my woman. I’m all out of ideas.”

Stormzy and Maya started dating in January 2015 after first meeting in October 2014.
