‘We’re Completely Devastated’: One Direction Release Joint Statement Following Death Of Liam Payne

The former members of One Direction – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Zayn Mailk – have issued a joint statement following the death of their bandmate Liam Payne.

The 31-year-old passed away on Wednesday October 16 following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Tributes have poured in from fellow X Factor contestants, celebrities and fans across the globe following the news.

Now, One Direction themselves have addressed the tragic loss.

In a joint statement, they said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say.

“But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us.

“We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam. – Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry.”

The band met in 2010 after auditioning separately for The X Factor, before being brought together as a band by Simon Cowell. The band went on an indefinite break in 2015, with Liam pursuing a solo career.

Louis Tomlinson has since penned his own personal tribute to his bandmate on Instagram, writing: “His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam.

“I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was.

“I wish I got a chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you.”

Billy Porter Continues To Criticise Vogue For Featuring Harry Styles In A Dress

Billy Porter is doubling down on his distaste for Harry Styles’ historic Vogue cover.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Billy claimed that Harry had been chosen to be the first man to land a solo cover for Vogue because he’s “white and straight”. Harry appeared in the publication’s December 2020 issue in a lacy Gucci gown and a Wales Bonner kilted skirt, among other boundary-smashing looks.

“Non-binary blah blah blah blah. No. It doesn’t feel good to me,” said the Pose actor and singer, whose red carpet looks have made him a gender-fluid fashion icon.

“You’re using my community — or your people are using my community — to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything.”

For the record, Harry has never labeled his sexuality in interviews or on social media, though he has only been in public relationships with women.

Billy’s harshest criticisms, however, were directed at “the gatekeepers” that permitted Harry to appear on the cover of Vogue, rather than the pop star himself. That group, he explained, includes the magazine’s longtime editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour.

The Emmy winner said he met with Anna for an interview six months before Harry’s Vogue cover was unveiled. During the Q&A, which took place in front of staff at Vogue’s publisher Condé Nast, Billy claims Anna asked for his input on how to approach the rise of gender-fluid fashion.

“That bitch said to me at the end, ‘How can we do better?’ And I was so taken off guard that I didn’t say what I should have said,” he recalled. In hindsight, he now wishes he would’ve urged the journalist to “use your power as Vogue to uplift the voices of the leaders of this de-gendering of fashion movement”.

Representatives for Vogue did not immediately respond to HuffPost’s request for comment.

Billy ― who is currently promoting a new album, Black Mona Lisa ― previously called out Harry and Vogue in a 2021 interview with The Sunday Times.

“I created the conversation [about gender-fluid fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time,” he said at the time.

“He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do. This is politics for me. This is my life. I had to fight my entire life to get to the place where I could wear a dress to the Oscars and not be gunned now.”

Just weeks later, Billy clarified his remarks while appearing on The Late Show.

“Harry Styles, I apologise to you for having your name in my mouth,” he said. “It’s not about you. The conversation is not about you.”

Olivia Wilde Stops Short Of Addressing Florence Pugh Rift At Venice Film Festival

Olivia Wilde doesn’t want to feed into the ongoing Florence Pugh drama surrounding the director’s new movie, Don’t Worry Darling.

The director expertly skirted around a reporter’s question about why Florence skipped the press conference for the new movie on Monday at the Venice International Film Festival.

“Can you just clear the air and address whether there has been a falling out there and if so, why, because it’s something that people are discussing?” a reporter said, according to The Independent.

“Florence is a force. And we are so grateful that she is able to make it tonight despite being in production on ‘Dune,’” Olivia said. “I know as a director how disruptive it is to lose an actor even for a day, so I’m very grateful to her and Denis Villeneuve for helping us. And we’re really thrilled we’ll get to celebrate her work tonight.”

“I can’t say enough how honoured I am to have her as our lead,” she added, calling Florence “amazing in the film.”

“And as for all the endless tabloid gossip and all the noise out there ― I mean, the internet feeds itself. I don’t feel the need to contribute,” Olivia said. “I think it’s sufficiently well nourished.”

Much ado has been made about Florence’s continued lack of promotion for the film after her initial excitement over being cast in the movie. There’s also a marked difference in the way both she and Olivia have approached the attention over the movie’s sex scenes.

Florence did arrive at the film festival on Monday, but missed the entirety of the press conference, where fellow stars including Chris Pine, Gemma Chan and Wilde’s boyfriend, Harry Styles, took questions.

Also at the Venice Film Festival press conference, the moderator dismissed a reporter’s question about Shia LaBeouf, who was originally cast in Harry’s role, before his exit from the film (another much-disputed detail in the making of the film).

Olivia insisted in a recent interview that she fired Shia, telling Variety that “his process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions.”

In response to her claims, Shia told HuffPost that he “was never fired from Don’t Worry Darling. I quit the film due to lack of rehearsal time.”

He also provided HuffPost with an email he sent to the director, and text messages from the time he exited the film.

Gossip has plagued the movie, which is the second directorial feature from Olivia, who made her debut with the 2019 film Booksmart.

Regardless of the real story, the constant speculation is serving up real attention around the movie, which officially hits cinemas on 23 September.
