‘Say It To My Face’: Kamala Harris Goes After Trump For Dodging Debate Plans

Vice President Kamala Harris said on Tuesday that she hopes former President Donald Trump will meet her on the debate stage later this year despite his apparent efforts to skip out on those plans now that she’s the Democrats’ presumptive nominee to face him in November.

Harris rallied a crowd of 10,000 supporters in Atlanta on Tuesday, her first visit to Georgia after President Joe Biden dropped out of the race and cleared the way for her campaign.

“This is a people-powered campaign, in fact … the momentum in this race is shifting, and there are signs that Donald Trump is feeling it,” the vice president said. “You may have noticed.”

Trump has now repeatedly expressed doubt about participating in the next debate, scheduled for September 10 on ABC News.

And while he said on Monday he would “probably” debate Harris at some point, he added that “everybody knows who I am,” suggesting a debate appearance may not benefit him.

In Atlanta, Harris hit the former president for backing out of those plans, repeating her ding that Trump and his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, were “just plain weird” and had a “lot to say about me.”

“Here’s the funny thing about that,” Harris said. “So he won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure seem to have a lot to say about me.”

“Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage,” she said, “because as the saying goes, if you’ve got something to say, say it to my face.”

Harris has catapulted into the campaign over the past 10 days, raising more than $200 million (£155m) and signing up more than 170,000 volunteers. And recent polls have shown her closing the gap in most swing states.

Sky News Presenter Questions Minister Over Past Anti-Donald Trump Stunt

A new Labour minister was questioned by Trevor Phillips on Sunday over a previous anti-Donald Trump stunt in London.

Before the exchequer’s secretary James Murray was elected to parliament, he was the deputy mayor of London under Sadiq Khan.

He held this role from 2016 to 2019 – meaning he was in office when his boss Khan allowed a six-metre high cartoon baby blimp of the then-US president to float across the capital.

It was part of a wider protest against the divisive politician’s first formal visit to the UK in 2018.

Six years later and Trump, now the official Republican Party nominee, has a chance of returning to the White House.

Phillips recalled the famous blimp on his programme this morning, asking Murray: “Do you now wish you hadn’t chosen to insult him in this way?”

The minister replied: “Look there’s been a lot of history between the mayor and President Trump but what’s important for me is being a minister in the government is that we have a relationship with the US, which is an incredibly strong one, and one that’s in our national interests and good for our national security.”

Phillips hit back: “It’s quite tricky to have a good relationship with somebody when one of your colleague has described him as a neo-Nazi and your former boss called him literally a few weeks, a racist, a sexist and a homophobe.”

The foreign secretary David Lammy called Trump a neo-Nazi in 2018, when he was a backbencher.

Meanwhile, Labour mayor Sadiq Khan criticised Trump and said his party should “call him out” in May this year.

The ex-president previously called the mayor a “stone cold loser” after saying Trump should not visit the UK back in 2019.

“Is that the way diplomacy these days under Labour?” Phillip asked.

Murray said: “In the past there have been comments on all sides of this relationship, but what it’s important for me is the strength of a relationship –”

Phillips cut him off, saying: “The strength of a relationship with someone who called you a neo-Nazi is not going to be very strong, is it?”

He said the UK-US “transcends any individuals”, and “it’s in our interests in terms of national security and economy” to get along well.

Phillips pushed: “You understand why this is an issue, don’t you?”

He noted that Lammy is now calling Trump’s running mate JD Vance is his friend and that chancellor Rachel Reeves is talking about a trade deal with the US.

He said: “You’re all going to have change your tune aren’t you?”

Murray said Labour have “never” changed their tune in their approach to the US, and that it is up to American voters to choose their president.

Mark Zuckerberg Applauds Trump’s ‘Badass’ Response To Assassination Attempt

Mark Zuckerberg has praised former President Donald Trump’s reaction to his attempted assassination at a Pennsylvania rally last weekend.

The Meta CEO ― in a recent interview with Bloomberg’s Emily Chang ― recalled seeing the Republican presidential nominee get up after he was shot before pumping his right fist in the air, moments seen in widely-shared photos from the shooting that killed one rally attendee.

Zuckerberg described the Trump rally scene, which featured an American flag waving in the sky, as “one of the most badass things” he’s seen in his life.

“On some level as an American, it’s like hard to not get kind of emotional about that spirit and that fight, and I think that that’s why a lot of people like the guy,” Zuckerberg said.

The Meta CEO, who once criticised Trump over his executive order on immigration back in 2017, hasn’t endorsed the Republican nominee or President Joe Biden as they look to win a second White House term in November.

“I’ve done some stuff personally in the past, I’m not planning on doing that this time,” said Zuckerberg, who noted that he’s not looking to back a presidential candidate in the election.

Zuckerberg’s remarks arrive after fellow multi-billionaire and the richest person in the world Elon Musk endorsed Trump following his assassination attempt.

Musk has reportedly pledged to donate $45 million a month to America PAC, a political action committee working to elect Trump.

Zuckerberg, elsewhere in his interview with Chang, claimed users on Meta’s platforms “actually want” to see less political content and they hope to use the sites to “connect with people.”

Meta’s Instagram announced earlier this year that the platform wouldn’t “proactively recommend” political content from accounts users don’t follow.

“I think you’re going to see our services play less of a role in this election than they have in the past,” Zuckerberg said.

Trump — whose Facebook and Instagram accounts were suspended in the wake of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack before being reinstated last year — has referred to Facebook as the “enemy of the people” and seemingly warned Zuckerberg he’d send him to prison if he were to return to the Oval Office.

Trump, in comments on TikTok, recently told Bloomberg Businessweek that he’s against banning the Chinese-owned platform as “you need competition” before blasting Facebook and Instagram.

“That’s, you know, that’s Zuckerberg,” the former president said.

Biden, too, claimed he’s “never been a big Zuckerberg fan” back in 2020 and referred to the Meta CEO at the time as “a real problem.”

Eyewitness Tells BBC Reporter He Saw Trump Shooter In Extraordinary Interview

A Donald Trump supporter told the BBC how he tried to alert the Secret Service about the man who fired at the former president.

The eyewitness revealed what he had seen during an extraordinary interview broadcast live on TV.

The man, known only as Greg, said he saw the man – who has been named as 20-year-old Matthew Crooks “bear crawling” on the roof of a building while carrying a rifle.

However, he said the Secret Service failed to respond to his warnings in time to prevent the gunman from opening fire.

The former president was shot at as he addressed a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

“I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear,” Trump posted on his social media site, Truth Social, after receiving hospital treatment.

Wearing a red ‘Trump 2024’ visor, the eyewitness told the BBC’s Gary O’Donoghue: “We all decided, when we hear Trump up there we’re going to walk up through the field, stand by the trees up there in the shade and listen to the rally,” he said.

“We couldn’t see him, but we could hear him. So we walked up and probably [after] five to seven minutes of Trump speaking, we noticed a guy bear crawling up the roof of the building beside us, 50 feet away from us.

“We’re pointing at the guy crawling up the roof. We could clearly see him with a rifle, absolutely. We’re pointing at him, the police are down there running around on the ground.

“We’re like ‘hey man, there’s a guy on the roof with a rifle’ and the police didn’t know what was going on. We’re saying ‘right here on the roof, we can see him from right here, he’s crawling’.

“I’m thinking to myself ‘why is Trump still speaking, why have they not pulled him off the stage?’. I’m standing there pointing at him for two or three minutes. The Secret Service is looking at us from the top of the barn. I’m pointing at that roof, and next thing you know five shots rang out.”

He said the Secret Service officers “probably” could not see the gunman from where they were, but he added: “Why isn’t there Secret Service on all these roofs here? This is not a big place.”

Asked by O’Donoghue what happened next, Greg said: “They blew his head off. Secret Service blew his head off.

“They crawled up on the roof, they pointed their guns at him, they made sure he was dead, and that was it, it was over.”

Prime minister Keir Starmer has said he is “appalled” by the incident, while US president Joe Biden described the attack as “sick”.

‘Deranged’: Critics React To Trump’s ‘Fat Pig’ Rally Rant

In his first campaign rally since the presidential debate, Donald Trump went on a bizarre tangent that left critics disgusted and questioning his fitness for office.

Speaking at his Doral golf club in Florida, the former president was discussing his campaign pledge to tipped workers when he began sharing an anecdote about a waitress he said he met in Nevada.

“A waitress came over, beautiful waitress — and I never liked talking about physical — she’s beautiful inside, because you never talk about a person’s look. Ever,” said Trump, who has called women “fat,” “disgusting” and “unsexy,” among other misogynistic attacks, over the decades.

He then launched into a backhanded attack on former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, a Trump ally turned critic who went up against the former president in the presidential primaries.

“The other day, I got very angry,” Trump continued. “Some man called Chris Christie fat. And I said, ‘Sir.’ And then he said he was a pig. I said, ‘Sir! Chris Christie is not a fat pig!’ Please remember he is not a fat pig. Please take it back.”

Trump has previously mocked Christie’s weight.

At a rally in New Hampshire in August, he said Christie was off “eating right now” before pointing into the crowd and saying, “Sir, please do not call him a fat pig.”

Christie, at the time, invited Trump to “say it to my face.”

Trump’s Doral rally contained multiple eyebrow-raising moments where he trailed off, rambled incoherently and blatantly lied.

The Biden campaign called the appearance “deranged.” President Joe Biden has consumed the spotlight since his fumbling debate performance and has faced calls to step aside.

“Imagine if Joe Biden said whatever tf Trump is saying here,” conservative attorney George Conway said on social media of the “fat pig” sidebar.

“Deranged. Utterly unfit for office,” the Republicans Against Trump group posted.

Virgin Islands Delegate Stacey Plaskett wrote, “Somebody anybody in the news!!! Are you going to report on this?!?! Does this sound normal? And this is EVERY TIME HE SPEAKS.”

‘Total Nonsense’ And ‘Pure Fiction’: CNN Fact-Checker Exposes Trump’s False Debate Claims

CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale offered a breathless breakdown of the misleading claims and false statements that former President Donald Trump made during his first 2024 presidential debate with President Joe Biden, which the network hosted in Atlanta on Thursday.

The presumptive Republican presidential nominee’s list of false claims is “way, way longer” than the president’s, Dale noted before reeling off and then debunking the many, many falsehoods uttered by Trump.

Dale, during his near-3-minute segment, described Trump’s claim that Biden wants to quadruple people’s taxes as “pure fiction” and said his line about Biden only creating jobs for “illegal immigrants” was “total nonsense.”

CNN’s Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, who moderated the debate, were criticised for not fact-checking Trump’s false claims in real time for the audience’s benefit.

The network did, however, run a live fact-check on its website.

Per CNN’s analysis, Trump made more than 30 false claims during the head-to-head compared to Biden’s “at least nine false or misleading claims.”

Trump Entertains Bizarre UFC-Like Concept For Migrants: ‘Not The Worst Idea I’ve Ever Had’

Former President Donald Trump backed an idea for a “migrant league” similar to the Ultimate Fighting Championship in remarks to Christian conservatives at a Faith & Freedom Coalition conference on Saturday.

“Why don’t you set up a migrant league of fighters and have your regular league of fighters and then you have the champion of your league, these are the greatest fighters in the world, fight the champion of the migrants,” said Trump, who claimed he pitched the idea to UFC President and CEO Dana White.

He continued, “I think the migrant guy might win, that’s how tough they are.”

The presumptive Republican presidential candidate, who once compared asylum-seekers to UFC fighters in 2019, added that White didn’t like the concept “too much.”

“But actually, it’s not the worst idea I’ve ever had,” said Trump. “These are tough people, these people are tough and they’re nasty, mean.”

White, in remarks to reporters at a UFC event, confirmed Trump shared the idea.

“It was a joke, it was a joke,” said White, a friend of the former president. “I saw everybody going crazy online. But yeah, he did say it.”

Trump would later bring up his “new migrant fight league” idea again at a rally in Philadelphia.

“You know, these are tough cookies coming into our country, coming with prisons and mental institutions,” he said.

He added that the idea could make White — who has appeared alongside him at multiple UFC events — “a lot of money.”

Sarafina Chitika, a spokesperson for Biden’s re-election campaign, took aim at the former president over his “incoherent, unhinged tirade” on Saturday.

“Fitting that convicted felon Donald Trump spent his time at a religious conference threatening to round up Latinos, bragging about ripping away Americans’ freedoms, and promising to be even more extreme if he regains power,” said Chitika in a statement.

The remarks from Trump arrive amid a campaign where he’s used dehumanizing rhetoric to refer to migrants, who he called “animals” and “not people” at an Ohio rally in March.

He’s pledged to conduct mass deportations of undocumented immigrants should he win in November’s presidential election and remarked that migrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” too.

Biden has talked of “Biden migrant crime” on the campaign trail, as well, despite studies that show immigrants don’t commit crime at a higher-rate than native-born citizens.

Donald Trump Reveals How Melania Reacted To His Conviction In The Hush Money Trial

Former US President Donald Trump said his wife, Melania Trump, is doing “fine” after a jury found him guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records in his criminal hush money trial in New York last week.

In an interview with Fox & Friends Weekend that aired on Sunday, the former president spoke about how his family is processing the news of his conviction.

“I think in many ways it’s tougher on them than it is on me,” he said. “They’re good people, all of them, everyone, everyone. I have a wonderful wife who has to listen to this stuff all the time. They do that for this reason.”

Trump added that while the former first lady has taken the news in stride, it’s still tough for her.

“She’s fine, but I think it’s very hard for her,” he said. “I mean, she’s fine, but you know she has to read all this crap.”

Trump has decried his conviction and pledged to appeal it.

The trial centers around a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election to keep quiet about her story about their alleged affair. Trump denies the affair.

The proceedings brought up embarrassing details about the former president and his relationship with his wife.

Michael Cohen, the former president’s personal lawyer and “fixer,” who was the prosecution’s star witness, told the court Trump wasn’t concerned about how his wife would react to Daniels going public with her story.

“He wasn’t thinking about Melania,” Cohen said. “This was all about the campaign.”

Meanwhile, Daniels told the court her affair with Trump started shortly after Melania Trump gave birth to the couple’s son, Barron.

Daniels also recalled Donald Trump told her at the time that he and Melania Trump slept in separate bedrooms.

In an interview with the Daily Mirror published Sunday, Daniels urged Melania Trump to leave the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

“I don’t know what their agreement may or may not be, but Melania needs to leave him,” Daniels said. “Not because of what he did with me or other women but because he is a convicted felon.”

Melania Trump has kept a low profile since the end of her husband’s administration, making rare public appearances as Donald Trump campaigns for the White House. She also did not show up at the Manhattan courthouse during the trial, even as other family members and allies joined Trump in court.

However, The New York Times reported Melania Trump privately called the trial “a disgrace” amounting to election interference.

Donald Trump’s sentencing hearing has been set for July 11.

‘It’s A Cult’: The Race To Be Trump’s Running Mate Hits New Lows

WASHINGTON — Donald Trump’s last vice president was called upon to defend the Constitution and American democracy by refusing to overturn the results of an election. Then his boss turned against him, whipping up an angry mob of supporters so intensely that they constructed a gallows and chanted for him to be hanged.

But Florida Sen. Marco Rubio still wants the job. So do Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Tim Scott of South Carolina. South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem (yes, even after the story about shooting a dog) and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum are also still in the mix to become Trump’s running mate.

Why? Because if you’re an ambitious Republican with an eye on higher office, becoming Donald Trump’s vice presidential running mate could be the quickest path to the Oval Office. Whoever Trump picks to join his ticket will become the immediate favorite to become the next GOP presidential standard-bearer, whether the 77-year-old ex-president wins in November or not.

That’s why so many Republicans are not-so-secretly vying for the position with appearances at Trump’s campaign events and on cable news programs in recent weeks, seemingly hoping to out-do each other on who can be the most obsequious MAGA messenger.

But winning Trump’s affection often requires unquestionable loyalty, and that means defending even his most shocking actions — including his unprecedented effort to overturn an election he lost, his vow to pardon rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, his 88 felony charges and his personal conduct, such as his alleged extramarital affair with an adult film star.

Besides — it’s not like they’ll end up in the same position as former Vice President Mike Pence, right? After all, Republicans who want the job say the Constitution limits presidents to serving two terms.

An attempt by the incumbent to stay in power past 2028 is “not going to be an issue for the next vice president, right?” Rubio told HuffPost. “No matter who’s elected president now, they can’t run again.”

Vance, meanwhile, said that what happened between Trump and Pence was a result of “the political consequences of what happened at the time.”

“I think Mike Pence [and] Donald Trump had a very strong disagreement,” he added. “And Mike Pence, you know, he’s fundamentally just was never really on board with the underlying agenda.”

Vance has also said he doubts that Pence’s life “was ever in danger” on Jan. 6.

Rubio and Vance’s decision to downplay the threats to Pence, who said in March he could not support his former boss for president in 2024, are just the latest example of the efforts running mate contenders will go to prove their loyalty.

Scott, for example, last week refused to commit to accepting the outcome of the 2024 election, echoing Trump’s own refusal during an earlier interview with a Wisconsin news outlet. Pressed several times for a direct yes or no, Scott dodged, maintaining there won’t be any issues, since Trump will be the inevitable victor.

“At the end of the day, I said what I said,” said Scott, who made a failed run against Trump in the 2024 primaries, on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “I know that the American people, their voices will be heard, and I believe that President Trump will be our next president. It’s that simple.”

Prior to dropping out of the presidential race, the South Carolina Republican had previously defended Pence for certifying the 2020 election. When asked at a GOP primary debate last year whether Pence did the right thing on Jan. 6, Scott said he “absolutely” did.

Vance also defended Trump’s claim to “absolute immunity” from prosecution during a combative interview on CNN — an argument that would essentially put the ex-president above the law.

Rubio, who Trump once derided as “Little Marco,” faces a key hurdle to getting the job: The Constitution states that electors in the Electoral College may not cast votes for both a president and vice president from their own state. Since Trump is also a resident of Florida, and since Republicans don’t want to cede a crucial swing state to Joe Biden in the 2024 election, either Rubio or Trump would have to change their residency before the election. And it almost certainly won’t be Trump.

Noem, meanwhile, continued to make the rounds promoting her book on cable news programs this week, drawing fire from all sides for dodging questions about both her dog and her telling of a meeting with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un that never happened.

Trump allies scratched their heads at Noem’s decision to write a tell-all memoir that volunteered so much damaging information — but they maintained getting on TV to fight with the press and defend Trump was a good way to stand out.

“I think it’s important he sees you in action and how well you do in front of the public,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told HuffPost, when asked what criteria would help prospective VP candidates.

“He’s finding out that having multiple people vying for the job means that he’s got a lot of proxies out there promoting his message,” Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) added of Trump.

Democrats lamented the GOP’s subservience to the ex-president, calling the jockeying to be his vice presidential pick another embarrassing display of sycophancy.

“It’s a cult,” Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said. “Logic doesn’t prevail in a cult. You just want to get as close to the leaders as you can. That’s what every day is about. How many invites do I get to Mar-a-Lago? How many phone calls do I get from him? Does he look at me kindly? That’s all that matters.”

Whoever Trump picks for vice president this time around will likely be more aligned with than Pence on talking points about the 2020 presidential election and his false claims of fraud. Trump has made glorifying the Jan. 6 attack on Congress a cornerstone of his campaign, embracing rioters as heroes and saluting them at his campaign events. Another contested election could play out similarly, given Trump could face prison time if he is not elected president.

“Most of the people who he would seriously consider to be VP will do whatever he asks, so they won’t have that conflict this time,” Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) said when asked why anyone would want to be Trump’s running mate, given what happened with Pence.

“Would they volunteer to put their heads into a loop?” a reporter asked.

“Absolutely,” he responded.

Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) warned against joining the ticket, pointing to former Trump backers, including some former top Trump administration officials, who have since offered strong criticism of the former president.

“History has a very profound lesson about the people who become associated with Donald Trump, which is it ends badly,” Blumenthal said. “There is virtually no one that has escaped the Trump gravity for malign impact on their lives. Even when they sought to disassociate themselves from [him], they’ve still been tarred in some way. There’s some good people who found out the hard way that Donald Trump is toxic.”
