Big Brother Just Confirmed A Major Tweak To This Week’s Nominations Ahead Of Second Eviction

Big Brother is set to introduce a big change to the nominations process this week, ahead of the show’s second eviction.

Following a five-year hiatus, the reality series returned to our screens earlier this month, after landing a new home on ITV2.

Last week saw Farida become the first contestant to be evicted from the newly-revamped house, after all 16 of the new additions each nominated one housemate they wanted to face the public vote.

For this weeks’ eviction, however, Big Brother has announced they will rever to the show’s original format, which will see housemates nominate two of their counterparts to face being evicted.

Nominations will be made on Tuesday (17 October), before viewers learn the results on Wednesday, at which point they’ll be given their say on who stays and who goes.

The results of the vote will air during this Friday’s live eviction.

Meanwhile, since Big Brother’s return to screens earlier this month, fans have been wondering whether a Celebrity Big Brother will soon follow suit.

Fans were delighted to see reports in the media outlet Broadcast claiming that ITV is, indeed, set to revive the celebrity version of the reality show next year.

The last instalment of Celebrity Big Brother aired in 2018, sparking controversy when Roxanne Pallett falsely accused housemate Ryan Thomas of deliberately punching her in the ribs, despite cameras showing this was not the case. She later issued an apology and expressed her regret.

Ryan, who played Jason Grimshaw on Coronation Street, ultimately went on to win the series.

Big Brother first premiered in 2000, with Davina McCall, Brian Dowling and Emma Willis on presenting duties over the years before AJ Odudu and Will Best stepped into the role for the revamped series.

Big Brother airs from Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2.

Adele is known to enjoy a natter on stage during a show, but a recent discussion about the new David Beckham documentary is possibly her most relatable yet.

The revealing new Netflix documentary, titled Beckham, gives viewers an unprecedented look into the football legend’s career and personal life – from his highlights with Manchester United and captaining for England, to his marriage and family life with Victoria in her Spice Girls days.

It turns out that Adele – who is currently performing her Weekends With Adele residency in Las Vegas – was a massive fan of the new four-part series.

During a performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace earlier this month, the Easy On Me singer took a moment to share her love of Posh and Becks with the crowd.

“To us, because I’m British, Beckham and Posh are literally like our king and queen,” she enthused. “For real – we absolutely love them. It feels like my whole life I’ve been watching them and loving everything that they do. So I watched it and it made me feel very nostalgic.”

Adele, a woman of our own heart, went on: “I just love a bit of Beckham, really. He’s absolutely the national worldwide treasure to me.”

The Grammy-winning singer told her fans that if they haven’t seen it “you should watch it”, before warning: “It is very British though – although the person that’s talking to him [filmmaker Fisher Stevens] is American, which is a bit strange. Only because [David’s] so British.”

In another clip from a recent show, Adele was filmed confessing that she was awake until 3.30am the previous night watching the documentary.

She said: “Yesterday I started the Beckham documentary, have any of you started? And I finished it last night and I didn’t want to go to sleep. I absolutely loved it. I thought it was wonderful. It was very nostalgic and very moving and it made me very homesick.”

The British singer enlightened the US crowd, noting: “They’re absolute legends to us, Beckham and also Posh. Especially when I was a kid, she was a Spice Girl and he was the captain of England. Can you imagine?”

Adele also shared that she “absolutely loved it”, while adding that she’s not always a fan of documentaries, “because normally it’s someone who has six months under their belt of doing something and they want to do a documentary, and I’m like, ‘wow’. But that’s a 25-year career”.

Adele put in a final plug for the documentary, telling fans: “Even if you’re not into football, or soccer, it’s actually really beautiful, so I’d really recommend it, especially as there’s a lot of you flying home tomorrow or the day after, so it’s a nice little easy watch on the plane.”

Upon the release of the new documentary, David made a rare public appearance at the premiere with all four of his children – 24-year-old Brooklyn, 21-year-old Romeo and 18-year-old Cruz, as well as their 12-year-old daughter Harper.

In the documentary, David’s intervention when he heard Victoria discussing her “working class” roots sparked a hilarious viral moment. Meanwhile, people are only just realising how hilarious Victoria is.

Among other big revelations in the documentary were the allegations of David’s cheating that rocked their marriage five years after they tied the knot.

At the documentary’s UK premiere, however, David responded to the criticism levelled at him for accepting an ambassador role for Qatar during last year’s World Cup.

The director also later addressed the decision not to include the backlash faced by the former footballer.

All four episodes of Beckham are now streaming on Netflix.

Not only did the British-Australian actor earn a Bafta for her role in Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film The Age Of Innocence, but she’s appeared in everything from critically-acclaimed dramas to family comedies and more.

Now aged 82, Miriam is as popular and in-demand as ever. We’ve taken a look back through her career to bring you the facts you never knew about the true showbiz icon…

Her on-screen credits go back to 1965

After starting out in theatre, Miriam’s first TV role credit was the 1965 British anthology series Theatre 625, in which she appeared as Rita in the episode Enter Solly Gold.

Her first ever big screen role came a few years later, when she played a minor role in the 1969 British comedy A Nice Girl Like Me.

She competed on University Challenge long before she was famous

Miriam has earned herself a reputation of being a delightfully unpredictable interviewee over the years.

On BBC Radio 4’s Today programme last year, she bluntly said that she wanted to say “fuck you, bastard” to the newly-appointed chancellor Jeremy Hunt, who appeared in the hotseat just before her, not realising she was broadcasting to the nation.

She later admitted that she didn’t exactly see the funny side after her explicit blunder, which came after she swearing yet again on ITV’s This Morning earlier in the year… only to do it again last month.

She was in the original cast of Wicked

Miriam appeared in the original London production of Wicked opposite Idina Menzel, Helen Dallimore, Adam Garcia and The Young Ones actor Nigel Planer.

The iconic retelling of The Wizard Of Oz opened at the Apollo Victoria Theatre in September 2006, with Miriam appearing as headmistress Madame Morrible. On opening night Miriam praised the “wonderful” talent in the cast that she was “lucky enough to share the stage with”.

Over the years, Miriam Margoyles has accumulated an eclectic array of acting roles, including performances in big-name franchises and even a Bafta win. However, what many people might not realise is that she is also a renowned voice actor.

The Call the Midwife star has lent her voice to adverts for brands such as Cadbury, PG Tips and Dolmio in her day, as well as contributing to audiobooks, animated features and even audio porn in the past.

Ahead of Miriam’s long-awaited debut in Doctor Who, where she’s set to voice Meep in the 60th anniversary special episode, we’re looking back at some of the more unexpected places her voice has popped up in over the years…

Because technically impeccable animatronics and computer graphics allow the farm animals to converse easily among themselves, first-time director Chris Noonan can treat the film’s menagerie as actual characters, playing scene not for cuteness but for real emotions. The result is often surprisingly touching, with Noonan and George Miller’s script, based on Dick King-Smith’s children’s book and, indirectly, a true story, seamlessly combining gentle whimsy and sincere feeling. These same qualities are embodied by in Cromwell’s beautifully understated performance as Farmer Hoggett, which anchors the film. Despite its unlikely premise and low profile, Babe’s inspirational story was embraced by audiences and critics, and the movie became an international sleeper that won an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. Back in the mid-90s, Miriam moved into the world of movie voice acting when she played Fly, a sheepdog, in the beloved farmyard classic, Babe.

Based on Dick King-Smith’s book, The Sheep-Pig, the comedy-drama followed a young farm pig who wanted to do the work of a sheepdog.

The wholesome film exceeded expectations and went on to be nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Visual Effects. Miriam also reprised her role in the sequel, Babe: Pig in the City.

In this Roald Dahl adaptation, Miriam voiced the Glowworm as well as appearing on screen as James’ Aunt Sponge.

The musical film combined stop-motion animation and live-action segments and featured a star-studded cast including Richard Dreyfuss, Joanna Lumley, David Thewlis, Susan Sarandon and Jane Leeves.

Though it wasn’t a huge box office success, it was a firm favourite with fans of the original novel and with critics.

It seems surprising that Miriam’s voice hasn’t been featured more in Disney films, with her sole credit with the studio coming in 1998, when she voiced The Matchmaker in the animated movie Mulan.

Agents of Shield star Ming-Na Wen held the titular role of the young heroine, while the cast also featured voice performances from Eddie Murphy, BD Wong and Miguel Ferrer.

The beloved classic garnered a Golden Globe award, an Oscar nomination and took home several Annie Awards. There was a much-less-revered direct-to-video sequel, Mulan II, in 2004 (in which Miriam reprised her role as the Matchmaker), before the live-action remake in 2020.

Alongside Elijah Wood, Robin Williams, Hugh Jackman, and Nicole Kidman, Miriam played Mrs Astrakhan in the computer-animated musical, Happy Feet.

The film followed Mumble, an emperor penguin who is extremely talented at tap dance, and went onto become the sixth highest-grossing movie of 2006 and landed the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.

However, it was apparently one of the more forgetful projects for Miriam.

Asked about her character during an interview on The Graham Norton Show years later, she responded: “I can’t remember… I don’t know, I didn’t watch it.”

In 2006, Miriam also voiced another animated character in Flushed Away.

Though the film didn’t garner the audience or box-office success it expected, it racked up a host of nominations during awards season and boasted a star-studded cast, featuring Kate Winslet, Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, and Bill Nighy.

Again, when asked on Graham Norton’s chat show about the movie, she struggled to remember who she played in the film: “I did Flushed Away… I don’t know what I was either… a piece of shit, I should think.”

Early Man (2018)

Over a decade later, Miriam worked with the Aardman Animation team again, but this time on a classic stop-motion, akin to Chicken Run and Wallace and Gromit.

The actor voiced Queen Oofeefa, the queen of the Bronze Age City in Early Man, who sent out Lord Nooth (Tom Hiddleston) to decimate the Stone Age cavemen.

As with most of Aardman’s projects, it boasted an impressive cast list featuring Eddie Redmayne, Maisie Williams, Timothy Spall, Rob Brydon and Richard Ayoade. Sadly, it was the least commercially successful instalment for the studio, but still an enjoyable family film.

Alongside her film and TV work, Miriam lent her voice to the animated brown rabbit in the famous Cadbury Caramel Bunny advert in the 1980s.

The iconic ad character appeared in a long series of ads back in the day, usually encouraging various woodland pals to “take it easy” in her dulcet tones, while enjoying a slab of chocolate .

After her success with Cadbury, Miriam became a firm favourite for voice roles in TV adverts.

It will probably have gone over most viewers’ heads that she plays the role of “Mama” Dolmio’s ads, where the Italian family tucks into a hearty meal of Bolognese, made, of course, with Dolmio sauce. It’s a small, but memorable entry to an already-impressive CV.

It’s a humorous, but informative advert that makes the most of Miriam’s cheeky (ahem) tone of voice to promote the cream that fights “pains in the posterior.”

In her early years, Miriam took on an alter ego “Sexy Sonia” as she lent her voice to read audio pornography.

She explained to The Mirror: “I recorded a soft-porn audio called Sexy Sonia: Leaves From My Schoolgirl Notebook… it was one of my first ever shows.

“It was for sale in sex shops and one day I went into Ann Summers and told the man behind the counter I was Sexy Sonia.

“He was very distressed and told me to keep my voice down because he didn’t want people to know she was this short, fat, and rather unattractive person.”

On This Morning, Miriam elaborated that the recording “was just a nasty episode which people could take home and pleasure themselves with”.

However, she stopped recording the series after one episode as she found it “exhausting”.

She continued: “You have to keep breathing heavily to simulate orgasm – as many women have to anyway. I found it very exhausting. I came home with a headache. I don’t know what the engineer thought! I put my whole soul into it.”

Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Miss You and Honky Tonk Woman are just some of the hits that spring to mind when you think of The Rolling Stones.

And now, the rockers are back with a new record… and it’s receiving glowing reviews across the board.

Titled Hackney Diamonds, the album comes 18 years after their last – A Bigger Bang (which, let’s face it, wasn’t their greatest attempt to smash the charts) – and is also their first release since the death of drummer Charlie Watts in 2021.

The album also features a supporting cast of famous faces, including Elton John, Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder and Lady Gaga.

So, ahead of Hackney Diamonds’ official release on Friday, here’s what critics are already saying about the Stones’ latest effort…

Ronnie Wood, Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards

“‘Let the old still believe that they’re young,’ Mick Jagger cries in a definitive Rolling Stones ethos that is delivered towards the end of Hackney Diamonds… And with that attitude, there’s no reason to believe it’ll be their last.

“In truth, the median age of its roll call belies the sheer vitality of the thing. [Keith] Richards and Ronnie Wood rip through gritty glam and blues rock riffs like guitarists half of half their ages, and rather than mutter reflective wisdom gleaned from a rock’n’roll life mid-winddown – a la Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan – [Mick] Jagger bawls and yowls about blurry nights, media intrusion and relationship ructions like an eternal A-list twentysomething.”

“The Stones have retained the essence of a bluesy bar band ever since, and therein lies their charm. They have never taken themselves too seriously. They have never tried to save the world. They’re simply here to show us a good time.

“Whether it’s a first-time Stones producer (Andrew Watt), bits of technological wizardry, or simply a desire to remind us why we cared about them in the first place, they haven’t sounded this brisk and focused in what feels like a half century.”

“It might reasonably be argued, Hackney Diamonds must be the best rock’n’roll album for 40 years, at least. Its dozen songs are jam-packed with Jagger swagger, Richards’ riffology, Woods’ twisty licks and aching Glimmer twins harmonies, bound together by tight rhythms, catchy melodies, snappy lyrics, dirty energy and flashes of the band’s trademark hair-raising flair…

“The band finish with a nod to their roots in the blues by covering Muddy Waters’ Rolling Stone Blues. When Jagger and Richards first met as teenagers at Dartford railway station in 1961, Mick had a prized Muddy Waters LP in his hands, bonding with Keith over their shared musical tastes. Sixty-two years on, this affectionate cover brings the pair full circle, cementing a studio comeback that rolls back the years with astonishing aplomb.”
