1989 (Taylor’s Version) Is Officially Out, And The Swifties Are Not OK

The latest instalment in Taylor Swift’s unprecedented undertaking to rerecord her first six studio albums is officially here.

The original 1989 – titled after Tay’s birth year – was released in 2014, and signified a major shift in the singer’s brand, as she shed her country roots to develop a more pop-centric sound. It’s also the album that many believe solidified Taylor’s status a true pop icon of our times.

Understandably – with bangers like Style, New Romantics and Wildest Dreams (plus five new ‘From The Vault’ songs) on the record – Swifties are going WILD for 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

Here’s what people on social media have had to say about it…

The new release is the Shake It Off singer’s fourth ‘Taylor’s Version’ album and follows the rerecords of Fearless, Red and Speak Now.

Just two of her albums released under her old label, Big Machine, are yet to be given the Taylor’s Version treatment; her self-titled 2006 release and 2017’s Reputation.

Dawn French Recalls Terrifying Incident That Nearly Killed Her And Jennifer Saunders

Dawn French has recalled an incident that nearly killed her and fellow comic Jennifer Saunders in the 80s.

The pair starred as a comedy duo and writers for the BBC sketch show French and Saunders. In her latest book The Tw*t Files, the 66-year-old revealed they almost died while working on a film in Spain.

“We made a film for The Comic Strip called A Fistful of Travellers’ Cheques in 1984,” she wrote in an excerpt published by The Mirror.

“We were sharing a villa with two bedrooms – Fatty (Dawn’s nickname for Jennifer) and her then-boyfriend in one room and me in the other. About five days in, we were called to set. A car would pick us up at 6 am and it was my job to be the alarm. I duly woke up and, in an effort not to fall back to sleep, I attempted to sit up.”

Dawn said what occurred next felt like something out of a cartoon show.

The duo were poisoned by a carbon monoxide leak leaving them feeling dazed and muddled. But she thanks her early call time as to why they are alive today.

She continued: “What happened next was very odd. It was as if I’d been thwacked in the face with a frying pan in a Tom and Jerry cartoon. Eventually, I managed to roll onto the floor. I was groggy and confused. I crawled to the door, opened it, and shouted to Jennifer. She mumbled something and then I heard a thud. None of us could stand up, so we crawled outside.

“It later transpired that we were being poisoned by a carbon monoxide leak from a faulty boiler. I’m pretty sure that, if we hadn’t had that early morning call, we wouldn’t be here now because we wouldn’t have attempted to wake up and the gas would’ve finished us off,” she said.

During a recent appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Dawn spoke of how she hoped her new book would “start up an anti-perfection league.”

She explained: “We carry a lot of shame, humiliation, and guilt about our mistakes, and I thought, ‘These mistakes are where I have learnt the most and where the fun is.’

“So, if you can wrangle back some of that shame and shine a light on it, it dissipates. If you own your mistakes, it’s very empowering.”

A Place In The Sun presenter Jasmine Harman broke down in tears on This Morning on Wednesday as she opened up about her mum’s hoarding struggles.

The long-time host and property expert on the Channel 4 programme, which helps house-hunters find their dream home abroad, has spoken on numerous occasions about the disorder her mum Vasoulla has.

The NHS describes a hoarding disorder as when “someone acquires an excessive number of items and stores them in a chaotic manner, usually resulting in unmanageable amounts of clutter”, adding that it can be a result of mental health problems or social factors like someone’s upbringing.

Appearing on ITV daytime show alongside her mother, Jasmine told host Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary that she’s learned to “concentrate more on having a loving relationship” with her mum, and “not focusing on the hoarding”.

She then became visibly emotional, before Alison comforted her by adding: “She’s not a bad person because she hoards”.

Jasmine went on: “I’m so grateful to her, because she’s helped me to become a much more compassionate person”.

Jasmine, who founded the online community Hoarding Support, went on: “I’m so grateful to her, because she’s helped me to become a much more compassionate person”.

The host then looked at her mum and said: “We used to fight, didn’t we? We used to argue about it all the time. But now, we have a relationship outside that’s not focused on the hoarding.”

During the interview, Vasoulla shared that the loss of her father, who was murdered in Cyprus when she was young, along with lots of upheaval as a child was part of the reason she started to hold onto possessions.

Jasmine has previously appeared in documentaries with her mum, including My Hoarder Mum & Me.

She also opened up about her experience growing up on the Hoarding Support website, writing: “Having lived with my Mum’s chronic hoarding problems through much of my life, I felt ashamed and isolated. When mum bravely agreed to appear in the BBC1 documentaries My Hoarder Mum and Me and Britain’s Biggest Hoarders, thousands of people reached out to me, and all of a sudden we were no longer alone.”

A Place In The Sun airs weekdays at 4pm on Channel 4, while This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.
