Graham Norton Owns Adele With Quip About Las Vegas Residency: ‘That Was Very Good’

Graham Norton’s quick wit got the better of Adele after she made a claim during her appearance on his chat show on Friday night.

Graham had been chatting to musical guest George Ezra, who struggled to tell the host when his live shows were coming up.

Reassuring him, Graham said: “No artist ever knows when anything’s happening.”

Adele chipped in, saying: “I always know when something’s happening,” before Graham quickly retorted: “You don’t know when Vegas is happening!”

The Easy On Me singer burst into laughter, admitting: “That was very good… that was very quick.”

Although she has yet to set a date, she insisted her string of residency shows will “100%” be happening before the year is out.

Asked about what happened in Vegas during an appearance she said: “I tried my hardest and really thought I would be able to pull something together in time.

“I regret that I kept going until that late in the day. It would have been a really half-arsed show and I can’t do that. People will see straight through me up on the stage and know I didn’t want to be doing it. I’ve never done anything like that in my life and I’m not going to start now.”

The interview also saw Adele remain coy on rumours she is engaged to boyfriend Rich Paul, after she was seen wearing a huge ring at this week’s Brit Awards.

The Graham Norton Show airs Fridays at 10.35pm on BBC One.

Janet Street-Porter Launches Fresh Attack On Adele Over ‘Snivelling’ Vegas Residency Apology

The Loose Women panellist branded the Easy On Me star “self-obsessed” and said Adele’s apology to fans after cancelling her shows was “snivelling”, accusing her of treating them “appallingly”.

In an emotional video she posted on Friday, Adele tearfully announced that her show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace “ain’t ready”, just 24 hours before she was due to take to the stage for the first time.

Writing in her column for MailOnline, Janet – who has previously turned on Adele – blasted her, writing: “I don’t know which was more jaw-dropping; Snivelling Adele’s feeble attempts at an apology to the camera with perfect nails on display, addressing us ordinary folk as if we were queuing for a bag of fish and chips (her actual words ‘My show ain’t ready’) – or the bare-faced cheek of coming to that decision just two days before kick-off.

“This carefully stage-managed attempt at sympathy doesn’t seem believable. Anyone might think she’s been studying footage of the Master of Non Apologies Boris Johnson,” she wrote.

“She’s been on a journey from wealthy woman to incredibly rich and self-obsessed global star. That doesn’t grant you the right to treat fans so appallingly, hoping that a snivelling apology will soften the blow.”

Janet added: “She’s got all the staying power of a soggy tissue.”

The former tabloid editor previously branded Adele “deeply shallow” in the lead up to the release of her latest album 30, accusing the star of “fake misery”, having “gushing tears on tap every hour” and speaking about her personal life “to shift product”.

The Weekends With Adele series was announced last November, with the singer scheduled to perform two shows every weekend until April.

Tickets ranged from $85 (£60) to $685 (£500), and Adele was reportedly set to make more than £500,000 per performance.

The residency would have marked the first time Adele had performed live shows in five years.

The 33-year-old singer said she had been “awake for 30 hours” trying to rescue the production, but had simply “run out of time”.

Adele also apologised to fans who had already arrived in Las Vegas for the opening weekend.

“I’m sorry, it’s last minute. I’m so upset and I’m really embarrassed and I’m so sorry to everyone that’s travelled again.”

The residency is set to be rescheduled, with dates announced in due course.

Adele ‘Overwhelmed’ By The ‘Best Fans In The World’ After Postponing Vegas Residency

Adele says she has been “overwhelmed” by the support of “best fans in the world” after being forced to postpone her Las Vegas residency.

The Easy On Me singer tearfully announced that her show at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace “ain’t ready”, less than 24 hours before she was due to take to the stage for the first time.

After her emotional video addressing the news made headlines across the globe, Adele acknowledged the “graciousness and love” she had been shown in response to the unfortunate decision.

“I have the best fans in the world!” she wrote on social media.

“Your graciousness and love tonight is overwhelming! Thank you.”

Adele previously explained the show was not ready having been “absolutely destroyed” by delivery delays and coronavirus.

“Half my team have Covid and it’s been impossible to finish the show,” she said.

When Adele promised there was “so much coming” from her in 2022, she really meant it – certainly if the video for her latest single Oh My God is anything to go by.

The singer serves up looks and drama in the stunning black and white clip for the second single from her multi-platinum-selling album 30.

The video was official unveiled on Wednesday, and sees multiple versions of Adele flanked by various performers, dancers and even a horse.

Arguably her most exciting visual to date, the video also reunited Adele with director Sam Brown, who previously helmed the clip for her 2010 hit Rolling In The Deep.

“To collaborate together again a decade later was nostalgic to say the least,” she said in a post unveiling the video on Instagram. “We filmed this one on the day Easy On Me dropped, there were a million things going on all at once. But the attention to detail from the crew was borderline hilarious – thank you so much for your patience and pulling it all together it was a lot of fun.

“Although right at the end a huge python was on set so I skidaddled my arse straight out of there!”

She added: “Big thank you to Harris Reed, Louis Vuitton and The Queens Haus – Vivienne Westwood for the most stunning clothes for me to sing my ‘I’m a hot mess’ song in!”

Oh My God serves as the follow up to Easy On Me, which went straight to number one upon its release in October.

This year promises to be another exciting one for Adele, who is about to begin a weekend residency in Las Vegas, giving fans the first chance to see her perform live in more than five years.

This summer, she will also return to the UK to play two shows at London’s Hyde Park, as part of the British Summertime festival.

Adele also looks set for big things at this year’s Brit Awards, having scooped four nominations, alongside Ed Sheeran, Dave and Little Simz.

She is nominated for Artist Of The Year and Best Pop/R&B Act, while Easy On Me was named in the Best Single category, and 30 received a nomination for the coveted Best British Album title.
