‘A Load Of B*****ks’: Critics Aren’t Exactly In Love With Rylan Clark’s New Naked Dating Show

It was always going to happen eventually, wasn’t it?

After dating formats that have seen contestants winning one another over in elaborate animal masks, sussing out a potential date using only their singing voice and, indeed, getting engaged without ever actually clapping eyes on each other, it was only a matter of time before somebody answered the age-old question: “What if Love Island… but naked?”

Paramount+ was the one who finally to be that “somebody”, with the first two instalments of the result, the succinctly-named Dating Naked, now available to stream.

Fronted by Rylan Clark, the show sees a group of singletons moving into a Love Island-esque summer paradise, and exploring the possibility of romance while completely starkers the whole time.

So far, critics have widely panned Dating Naked, with one-star reviews in a number of outlets, and words like “tedious”, “attention-seeking” and “banal” all being thrown around.

Here’s a selection of what critics have had to say (including a smattering of positive reviews, too)…

“[The only] vaguely entertaining thing about Dating Naked is that it’s hosted by Rylan Clark, who remains clothed and only says ‘I feel a bit overdressed’ once. Otherwise, it’s one heavily constructed reality show ding-dong after another, as partnerships are thrown together and discarded quicker than a cardigan at the door… [This] is a load of bollocks.”

“There are no redeeming features here, not even host Rylan, whose perma-grin seems stapled to his face as he repeats the same few phrases on autopilot […] Save yourself the bother; even if there’s no actual underwear in sight, this show is still pants.”

“Far from injecting a new lease of life into the weary reality TV format, the nudity renders the whole thing strangely banal and mundane. It’s not really shocking, it’s just a bit tedious and attention-seeking. It’s not sexy, either – it’s too anatomical for that. It’s hard to have any sort of allure when it’s all openly displayed on a platter. If less is more, this is definitely too much.”

“Dating Naked UK isn’t necessarily awful because the contestants are naked. It’s awful and the contestants are naked. Once the novelty has worn off, it’s a dire, derivative reality contest with absolutely nothing to offer.”

“The alarming truth is that after around ten minutes of the first episode the nakedness becomes, for the viewer at least, utterly unremarkable. Honestly, by the end of episode two I’d even stopped making mental notes to not forget the pigs in blankets this Christmas.”

“Dating Naked is bonkers but extremely watchable. It’s hard to think where reality TV might take us next in the pursuit of something we haven’t seen.”

“Reality TV formats work best when they turn the volume up on real life. If I wanted to watch normal people dating, I can do that down the Slug and Lettuce any night of the week. It’s why programmes such as Dating Naked are essential.

“I have seen two early episodes of the Paramount+ show and it is fascinating what the dynamic of being nude brings to conversation.”

Rylan Clark Blasts Eurovision Touts Flogging Tickets For As Much As £12K

Rylan Clark had a few choice words for the touts flogging tickets for this year’s Eurovision at extortionate prices.

Tickets for the 2023 contest went on sale on Tuesday afternoon, and it’s fair to say that buying them was no easy task for fans, thanks to high demand and technical issues.

While some lucky Eurovision fans were able to get their hands on seats to the shows in Liverpool, others were left disappointed when the events sold out completely in just over half an hour.

Since then, tickets are already being listed on resale sites for thousands of pounds, which Rylan has taken issue with.

“To the people selling Eurovision tickets at RIDICULOUS resale prices that aren’t proper fans – pricks,” he tweeted on Tuesday, alongside a gif of someone giving the middle finger.

He also urged those disappointed who didn’t bag tickets not to be discouraged, as all kinds of celebrations will be going on in Liverpool throughout May.

“Congrats if you got tickets! If not don’t worry, the Euro Village is gonna be amazing,” he insisted. “Eurovision is gonna take over the whole city. See you soon Liverpool.”

Rylan has been part of the UK’s Eurovision presenting team since 2018, when he and Scott Mills began commentating together during the live semi-finals.

He was also a judge on the now-defunct selection show Eurovision: You Decide, and earlier this year fronted coverage of The Big Eurovision Party and co-hosted the 2023 allocation draw in Liverpool.

Ukrainian entrant Kalush Orchestra were voted 2022’s Eurovision champions during last year’s show in Turin with their song Stefania.

While the winning country traditionally hosts the following year’s event, organisers ruled that this would be unable to happen due to the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Instead, the UK is taking on hosting duties after finishing in second place with Sam Ryder’s Space Man.

Rylan Clark Claims Boris Johnson’s Team Tried To Pull This Morning Interview When They Found Out He Was Hosting

The politician sat down with Rylan and Holly Willoughby on the ITV daytime show in June 2016, but writing in his new autobiography Ten, the former X Factor star alleged he was told that Johnson’s advisors felt he wasn’t “qualified enough” to do the interview.

Speaking about how he often faces snobbery around his interest in and commentary on politics, Rylan wrote (via Evening Standard): “In 2016 before the EU referendum, for example, I was due to interview Boris Johnson on This Morning.

“Then I found out he had threatened to pull out because his advisers heard that I was standing in for Phillip Schofield that day.

“Apparently they thought I wasn’t ‘qualified enough’ to ask him questions.

“Obviously, This Morning didn’t tell me this, and I’m sure it wasn’t Boris who said it, it was probably someone on his team, and I did eventually interview him, but how do they know if I’m qualified or not?”

HuffPost UK has contacted Boris Johnson’s team for comment and is awaiting a response.

Earlier this year, Rylan hit out at the Tory party during an appearance on The Last Leg and called on MPs to “run the country right, look after people in this country and stop being a fucking arsehole” amid in-fighting in the Conservatives.

Rylan Clark Shows Off His Body Transformation After Ditching Booze And Hitting The Gym

Rylan Clark has stripped off for a series of photographs to show off his impressive body transformation.

The TV presenter has ditched alcohol, hit the gym and embraced a new approach to eating after signing up to The Six Pack Revolution programme.

The 33-year-old has credited the “life-changing” exercise and nutrition routine with not only transforming his body but massively improving his mental health too after a difficult year, which saw him split with his husband of six years.

“My attitude to exercise has done a complete u-turn,” Rylan said. “Not only has my body transformed but my mental health has massively improved too, I’m literally a new man!

“I’ve always worried about taking this step but it really has improved me for the better.”

Personal trainer Scott Harrison worked closely with Rylan at his home gym in Essex, combining weight training with a nutrition plan, which included ditching the booze.

On Sunday, Rylan opened up about his split from husband Dan Neal, and how it had left him feeling “unwell”.

The It Takes Two host revealed his weight plummeted to under ten stone, which led him taking a four month break from the spotlight to focus on his physical and mental health.

The 33-year-old, who is currently going through a divorce from his former policeman husband, told The Sun that the split had been “very difficult”.

He said: “I got ill and I lost weight, I went down to under ten stone — and I’m six feet four inches, so that’s not good.

“The honest truth is that it’s been shit. I didn’t deal with what happened and now I am. I felt unwell and it was a very difficult time for me.”

Rylan credited his new fitness regime with “saving” him after he started working out with Scott.

“Last year I properly lost myself,” he admitted. “I wanted to get me back and make a better version.”

Rylan Clark has opened up about the breakdown of his six-year marriage, saying the split from his husband Dan Neal left him feeling “unwell”.

The TV presenter revealed his weight plummeted to under ten stone, which led him taking a four month break from the spotlight to focus on his physical and mental health.

The 33-year-old, who is currently going through a divorce from his former policeman husband, told The Sun that the split had been “very difficult”.

He said: “I got ill and I lost weight, I went down to under ten stone — and I’m six feet four inches, so that’s not good.

“The honest truth is that it’s been shit.

“I didn’t deal with what happened and now I am. I felt unwell and it was a very difficult time for me.”

Rylan has credited his mum Linda with being his rock and helping him get through the break up.

“My mum was majorly worried about me, as were all my family,” he said.

“I don’t just disappear for four months — that doesn’t just happen.

“Mum has been a lifesaver to me and one of my biggest regrets of this year was putting my mum through me not being well. I needed to get back to me.”

Rylan says getting fit has “saved” him after he signed up with a personal trainer and started making use of the gym in his home.

“Last year I properly lost myself,” he admitted. “I wanted to get me back and make a better version.”

Rylan’s body transformation isn’t the only physical change he has made.

At the end of last year he also replaced his famous veneers with a set of new teeth.

The TV star announced his decision to ditch his famous teeth after eight years on Twitter.

Rylan Reveals He Hasn’t Quite Parted With His Old Teeth As He Discusses His More ‘Natural’ Smile

Rylan Clark has revealed he isn’t quite ready to say goodbye to his old teeth just yet, despite having his famous veneers removed last month.

Now speaking to the MailOnline, Rylan said he’s still in possession of the veneers, and has some ideas about what to do with them next.

“I’ve still got them, they’re in a bag somewhere, I’m gonna get them framed,” he revealed.

“The new ones are a hell of a lot smaller, I couldn’t fit the last ones on a plane to the Pacific so I thought I’d make them a lot more natural.

“If I didn’t have the veneers, I would look like a gummy t**t so they’re staying.”

He added: “I do feel the older I get, the more comfortable I get with how I look and slow stuff down, hence the change of teeth and things like that.”

Rylan has previously stated that his veneers actually helped his career in the early days as they distracted viewers from his presenting ability.

He told Notebook in 2017: “I got my veneers finished the day before I started hosting Big Brother’s Bit On The Side, my first presenting job.
