King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer, Buckingham Palace Says

King Charles has been diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Monday.

The palace did not go into detail about the kind of cancer the monarch has, or its severity, but said he has begun treatment.

“During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,” the palace said in a statement shared with HuffPost.

“Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer. His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties.”

The palace made sure to note that the monarch “will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual”.

“The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure,” the palace said, adding that Charles “remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible. His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”

Charles underwent surgery last week, after the palace announced in January that he was seeking “treatment for an enlarged prostate”. At the time, the palace described the king’s condition as “benign”.

The king’s diagnosis comes as his daughter-in-law Kate, Princess of Wales, recovers from abdominal surgery that saw her hospitalised for about two weeks. She is “making good progress,” according to a statement from the palace, and returned home to Windsor last week.

Prince Harry, who quit royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, is expected to fly to the UK in the coming days to see his father.

Prime minister Rishi Sunak tweeted: “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery. I have no doubt he’ll be back to full strength in no time and I know the whole country will be wishing him well.”

Charles departed from royal tradition with his openness about his prostate condition. For centuries Britain’s royal family remained tight-lipped about health matters.

The British public wasn’t told that Charles’ grandfather, King George VI, had lung cancer before his death in February 1952 at the age of 56.

King Charles And Camilla Release New Photos With Four Hidden Regal Symbols

King Charles and his wife Camilla, the Queen Consort, have just released some new photos ahead of the coronation next week – and they’ve got a few historical nods hidden within them.

The three new images, all taken in March at Buckingham Palace and snapped by photographer Hugo Burnand, show the couple in a particularly stately-looking room called the Blue Drawing Room.

So, what’s the big deal?

Well, it seems there are a few hidden symbols in the images which suggest Charles is drawing on the past that comes with his new hereditary role.

In his image, the monarch is sat in a rare chair (one of a suite of 12) which dates back to 1828. It was supplied to King George IV for the furnishing of Windsor Castle who reigned between 1820 and 1830 – making it fancy and particularly old.

The monarch is also sitting in front of a State Portrait of King George V, which was painted after his own coronation. As Charles’s great-grandfather who reigns between 1910 and 1936, the parallels won’t have been lost on the monarch as he took to the throne more than a century later.

George V is also wearing Naval uniform with his Robe of State, or parliamentary Robe. Perhaps that’s a nod to how Charles is expected to don his own Admiral of the Fleet uniform for his coronation, bucking the trend for male monarchs to wear stockings breeches.

Charles, meanwhile, looks pretty relaxed in the image, smiling casually and looking straight at the camera.

There were two more royal hints in Camilla’s photo as well. She adopted a very similar pose to her husband in her image, but swapped out the chair.

This upholstery has a rich history too, dating back to 1812. According to the Palace, it was probably commissioned by King George IV when he was Prince of Wales – the very same title Charles held for more than 70 years. One of a set of just two, this furniture has only been in the Blue Drawing Room since at least the early 20th Century.

Also sitting in front of George V’s portrait, the Queen Consort was wearing a blue – royal blue, might we add – crepe coat dress, and pearl drop earrings set with a sapphire and ruby which used to belong to the late Queen, but a pearl necklace from her own collection.

This is perhaps a gentle nod to her mother-in-law, who died in September.

Buckingham Palace Gives Update On The Queen’s Health After Death Hoax Circulates

Buckingham Palace has released another update regarding Queen Elizabeth’s health.

The palace said on Wednesday that the queen, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, held her weekly telephone audience with prime minister Boris Johnson.

The news of the queen’s call followed the US blog Hollywood Unlocked’s false “exclusive” claim that the Queen died on Tuesday, which quickly circulated on social media. The false claim, made on the site’s Instagram page, has yet to be taken down by the blog.

The queen’s positive Covid-19 test came just days after her son, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also tested positive. The statement from the palace over the weekend said the queen was “experiencing mild cold like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week”.

The queen cancelled virtual engagements on Tuesday, as the palace said she was “still experiencing mild cold-like symptoms”, but would still “continue with light duties”.

The latest news about the queen’s health comes after questions were raised in October, when the sovereign cancelled a planned engagement to Northern Ireland the day of the trip.

Buckingham Palace said at the time that the queen had “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days”.

The Sun later published a piece on the monarch’s hospitalisation, prompting the palace to confirm her hospital stay for “preliminary investigations.”

The queen held a virtual appointment the following week, though she cancelled an in-person appearance at the United Nations climate change conference, COP20.

In late October, the palace released another statement on Queen Elizabeth’s health, saying that she was intent in making an in-person appearance at the National Service of Remembrance on November 14.

The queen was unable to attend the service, though, missing it due to a sprained back.

Charles talked about his mother’s health just a few days later, telling press during a trip to Jordan that the sovereign was doing “all right”.

“Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be,” the Prince of Wales told Sky News royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills in November. “It’s bad enough at 73.”

Princess Eugenie And Jack Brooksbank Reveal Royal Baby Name

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank have named their baby son August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

The couple are pictured smiling with their first child, in an image released by Buckingham Palace.

The newest addition to the royal family, who was born at the exclusive Portland Hospital in central London at 8.55am on February 9, is the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh’s ninth great-grandchild.

The choice of Philip pays tribute to the duke, who remains at King Edward VII’s hospital, having been admitted on Tuesday evening after feeling unwell.

The new arrival was born 11th in line to the throne but, following the news a few days later that the Duchess of Sussex is expecting a second child, will move to 12th place.

In the newly-released picture, the baby boy is wrapped in blue and has his eyes closed as he is held by his beaming father and clutches his mother’s finger.

Eugenie posted on Instagram: “We wanted to introduce you to August Philip Hawke Brooksbank.

“Thank you for so many wonderful messages. Our hearts are full of love for this little human, words can’t express. We are excited to be able to share these photos with you.”

She added that the images were taken “By our wonderful midwife. Thank you to the wonderful essential workers including our midwife who came to discharge our boy.”

On the day of his birth, Eugenie, 30, and Jack gave the world the first glimpse of their baby, posting a black and white image on Instagram of their hands cradling his tiny fingers and wrist.

A few days later Eugenie waved from the back seat of a 4×4 with her son beside her in a carry cot, while husband Jack drove them home from the hospital.

The baby is a regular Master Brooksbank even though his mother is a princess.

Eugenie and Brooksbank, who is European brand director of Casamigos Tequila, co-founded by the actor George Clooney, wed in a glittering ceremony in the gothic surroundings of St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in front of royal and celebrity guests in October 2018.
