Holly Willoughby Speaks Out After Phillip Schofield’s ITV Exit And Admission Of Affair With A Colleague

Holly Willoughby has broken her silence following Phillip Schofield’s exit from ITV, which came after he admitted to having an affair with a This Morning colleague.

On Friday, Phillip released a statement to the Daily Mail, in which he said he’d previously had a “consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague”, which he said was “unwise, but not illegal”.

The news he would be leaving ITV altogether in light of his admission came just a week after he’d announced his exit from This Morning after 21 years, the reason for which he’s claimed is “unrelated” to his affair

Now Holly – who is currently on a break from the daytime show – has spoken out about the recent developments in a statement via her Instagram Stories which read:

“It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not. It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly.”

ITV previously confirmed that Holly is due to return to This Morning on Monday 5 June, where she will be joined by other members of the on-air team.

Phillip left the show last Saturday “with immediate effect” following mounting reports of a rift between him and Holly – something he’d previously put out a statement to deny.

Holly and Phillip had co-hosted the ITV daytime show together since 2009 – having first been paired up on Dancing On Ice in 2006 – with Phillip originally joined the presenting team in 2002.

After Phillip’s exit from the show last week, Holly posted a short statement on Instagram, in which she thanked him for “his knowledge, his experience and his humour”, adding: “The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”

Phillip said his departure from the show had “fuelled speculation and raised questions” about previous suggestions of a relationship between him and a former colleague on the show, stating it was now “important for me to be honest”.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Phillip said: “I am making this statement via the Daily Mail to whom I have already apologised personally for misleading, through my lawyer who I also misled, about a story which they wanted to write about me a few days ago.

“The first thing I want to say is: I am deeply sorry for having lied to them, and to many others about a relationship that I had with someone working on This Morning.”

“I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning,” he confirmed. “Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship.

“That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over. ”

Phillip then insisted that when he came out as gay in February 2020, he “did so entirely for my own wellbeing”, and was not “forced” to do so.

“In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven’t been truthful about the relationship,” he said. “But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

“I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife.

“I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me.

“I will reflect on my very bad judgement in both participating in the relationship and then lying about it.”

He also called for the media to respect the privacy of his unnamed former colleague.

Phillip’s statement was published shortly after it was revealed he had parted ways with his management company, YMU, after 25 years.

YMU’s CEO Mary Bekhait said: “Honesty and integrity are core values for YMU’s whole business, defining everything we do. Talent management is a relationship based entirely on trust.

“This week, we have learned important new information about our client Phillip
Schofield. These facts contradicted what Phillip had previously told YMU, as well as the external advisors we had brought in to support him. As a result, on Thursday we agreed to part company with Phillip, with immediate effect.”

Bonnie Tyler Appears To Suffer Awkward Miming Fail During This Morning Performance

Bonnie Tyler’s Total Eclipse Of The Heart is a karaoke classic we’ll probably never forget the words to.

Awkwardly, it doesn’t appear the same can be said for Bonnie Tyler herself.

The singer seemingly suffered a miming fail during a performance on This Morning on Wednesday.

The legendary Welsh star joined guest hosts Josie Gibson and Craig Doyle on the sofa for a chat on the ITV daytime show, before taking to the stage to belt out her signature hit, which has just turned 40 years old.

However, part way through the performance, Bonnie appeared to forget the words and stopped singing.

Unfortunately for her, however, the lyrics carried on playing, despite her lips not moving, leading many to deduce she’d been miming.

Seemingly realising the gaffe, Bonnie could be seen turning away from the cameras before trying to get the rest of the performance back on track.

Earlier on the show, Bonnie had said she never gets sick of singing Total Eclipse Of The Heart.

“I never get bored of singing it. I always do it during all of my shows and always look forward to it coming up in my set.

“The punters always love it.”

We’re sure that this rendition is one they won’t be forgetting in a hurry.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV1.

Jeremy Vine Called Out For Response After Having Actual Definition Of ‘Woke’ Explained To Him

Jeremy Vine has come under fire for his response after a guest on his Channel 5 show explained what the term “woke” actually means.

The presenter was branded “patronising” following a conversation about the term with mental health campaigner Natasha Devon on Friday’s edition of his show.

Discussing how some of his university friends are “woke”, Natasha asked him what he thought the word means.

He responded: “Well, woke is, you know, you kind of read The Guardian and this and that, yeah.

“I’m woke about three or four days a week, to be fair,” he said.

“I love that for you,” Natasha replied, before going on to explain: “Woke is actually an African-American term meaning to be awake to injustice in society.

“It just means you’re not racist, homophobic or misogynist, so I’d say you’re a woke person.”

“Well, in your definition it means that, but not to everyone,” he replied.

On social media, people criticised Jeremy for ignoring the origins of the word and how the term had been hijacked by people using it pejoratively.

Among those who called him out was comedian Kathy Burke, who tweeted: “No it hasn’t, it’s just been hijacked by thicko’s and patronising old white men.”

Many others agreed:

The exchange was originally clipped up and posted on the Jeremy Vine show’s official Channel 5 Twitter account, where it started doing the rounds.

However, the video has since been deleted.

Amanda Holden faced a similar backlash over her use of the word “woke” earlier this week when she said what she “loved” about the late Paul O’Grady was that he was “not woke in any way”.

Many listeners took issue with Amanda’s choice of words, highlighting the fact that the gay star was a trailblazing queer activist, trans rights supporter and arguably, as Lily Savage, the very first drag queen to breakthrough on to mainstream TV.

Jeremy Vine airs weekdays from 9.15am on Channel 5.

Susanna Reid Defends Madonna After Comments About Her Grammys Appearance: ‘She Should Be Proud Of Herself’

Susanna Reid has defended Madonna after the star spoke out against misogynistic and ageist comments about her appearance.

The Good Morning Britain presenter said the Like A Prayer singer should “feel proud of herself”, while criticising those who have been passing comment on Madonna since she popped up at the Grammys over the weekend.

Discussing a recent Instagram post, in which Madonna said she was once again “caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in”, on the ITV breakfast show, Susanna said: “She’s 64 years old and I think she is damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t. If she aged naturally people would still be focused and obsessed with her appearance.

“People are going to be obsessed with how Madonna appears and she thinks it is an example of misogyny, ageism and she also blames the long lens of the camera which took her photo.”

She continued: “Frankly, do you know what? I think she should just look however she wants to look and there we go and there you have it.

“She should feel proud of herself whatever she does.”

The Queen of Pop appeared on stage at Sunday’s Grammys to introduce Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ performance of their hit collaboration, Unholy, during which she paid tribute to her fellow “troublemakers and rebels”.

It prompted scrutiny and speculation on social media and in the press, with some questioning if the 64-year-old had undergone cosmetic surgery.

Responding to the criticism on Instagram, Madonna said: “Many people chose to only talk about close-up photos of me taken with a long lens camera by a press photographer that would distort anyone’s face.

“Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in. A world that refuses to celebrate women pass [sic] the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her if she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working, and adventurous.

“I have never apologised for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.”

Madonna pointed out that she’s been “degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.”

She concluded: “I look forward to many more years of subversive behaviour – pushing boundaries – Standing up to the patriarchy – and Most of all enjoying my life.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV1.

Rylan Clark Claims Boris Johnson’s Team Tried To Pull This Morning Interview When They Found Out He Was Hosting

The politician sat down with Rylan and Holly Willoughby on the ITV daytime show in June 2016, but writing in his new autobiography Ten, the former X Factor star alleged he was told that Johnson’s advisors felt he wasn’t “qualified enough” to do the interview.

Speaking about how he often faces snobbery around his interest in and commentary on politics, Rylan wrote (via Evening Standard): “In 2016 before the EU referendum, for example, I was due to interview Boris Johnson on This Morning.

“Then I found out he had threatened to pull out because his advisers heard that I was standing in for Phillip Schofield that day.

“Apparently they thought I wasn’t ‘qualified enough’ to ask him questions.

“Obviously, This Morning didn’t tell me this, and I’m sure it wasn’t Boris who said it, it was probably someone on his team, and I did eventually interview him, but how do they know if I’m qualified or not?”

HuffPost UK has contacted Boris Johnson’s team for comment and is awaiting a response.

Earlier this year, Rylan hit out at the Tory party during an appearance on The Last Leg and called on MPs to “run the country right, look after people in this country and stop being a fucking arsehole” amid in-fighting in the Conservatives.

Lewis Capaldi Leaves BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty And Charlie Stayt Speechless After X-Rated ‘Communication Breakdown’

There’s always some laughs guaranteed when Lewis Capaldi pops up on TV and his appearance on BBC Breakfast on Saturday proved to be no different, after what he called “a classic breakdown of communication”.

The Someone You Loved singer left hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt speechless after mishearing a comment Naga made at the end of his interview on the show.

The X-rated moment came after Lewis had complimented Charlie on his “great hair”.

“Well you’ve got great hair too,” Charlie replied, before Lewis leaned in for a high-five.

Watching their blossoming bromance, Naga joked: “Would you like a room?”

“I thought you said rim!” Lewis said.

As Naga was left open-mouthed, laughter could be heard from behind the cameras.

“Jeez!” Charlie remarked.

Keen to quickly move things along, a smirking Naga joked she was going to “have a little word with Lewis” as she segued to a news bulletin.

Lewis had been on the show to promote his latest single Forget Me, which hit number one in the Official Chart last week.

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and BBC News.

Lorraine Kelly Planning Tattoo Tribute To Dame Deborah James

Lorraine Kelly and other friends of Dame Deborah James are planning to get matching tattoos to honour the late cancer campaigner and podcast host.

Deborah, known to her one million online followers as Bowelbabe, died last month from bowel cancer at the age of 40.

She had been a regular guest on Lorraine’s ITV show, and as the presenter discussed her friend’s funeral – which took place on Wednesday – she revealed she will be getting a permanent tribute.

“There was a whole bunch of us that said we’re going to get tattoos with Rebellious Hope on them,” Lorraine said on Thursday, referring to a phrase that became synonymous with Dame Deborah.

“I think I agreed to that! We’re just deciding where they’re going to be.”

She added: “We might have to film that, I think that’s going to happen.”

During the same segment on her show, Lorraine discussed Deborah’s funeral, which she attended.

“There were a lot of tears and there really was genuinely a lot of laughs too, so it was great,” Lorraine said.

“She planned it all and it was perfection, as you would expect.”

She continued: “I was very honoured to be there with some of our team. It was a beautiful beautiful send-off, it was so lovely and it was sad but it was also a celebration of a wonderful wonderful woman.”

Susanna Reid Clashes With Dominic Raab In Car Crash Good Morning Britain Interview

Susanna Reid has won praise after holding Dominic Raab’s feet to the fire over the Chris Pincher scandal during a Good Morning Britain interview.

The deputy prime minister appeared on the ITV breakfast show on Tuesday, where he was questioned about whether Boris Johnson had previous knowledge of allegations of inappropriate behaviour levelled against Pincher.

He lost the Conservative whip last week after being accused of groping two men when he had “far too much” to drink.

Pincher was appointed to enforce party discipline in February this year. He had resigned as a junior whip back in November 2017 following a complaint that he made an unwanted pass at a Conservative candidate.

Susanna stated that Pincher was “found guilty” in a subsequent investigation, but Raab insisted that “no formal disciplinary action was taken” against Pincher, despite the the complaint being upheld.

A testy exchange between the pair then followed as they argued over whether it could be said Pincher was “found guilty”.

“Was he guilty of inappropriate behaviour or not?” Susanna said.

Raab said: “He was found… the claim was found to be substantiated but we didn’t…”

Susanna repeated her question, as Raab insisted the claims were “substantiated” but argued that “guilty is a very loaded term”.

“Sorry, inappropriate behaviour is a pretty loaded term, Mr Raab,” Susanna told him.

Raab appeared to lose patience, saying: “Sorry, if you’ll allow me to… Susanna you always do this.”

“What, ask questions?” she replied.

“Let me give you the account and your viewers can make up their minds. I’m always happy to answer difficult questions.”

Following the latest allegations made against Pincher last week, the prime minister initially tried to stand by him.

Downing Street also initially denied the PM had knowledge of prior allegations made against Pincher before he was appointed deputy chief whip in February.

However, on Monday No.10 admitted Johnson was aware of media reports and some allegations about Pincher’s misconduct that were “either resolved or did not progress to a formal complaint”.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.

Eamonn Holmes Says ‘One Or Two People Would Have To Not Be There’ For Him To Work At ITV Again

Eamonn Holmes has said that there’s “one or two people that would have to not be there” for him to ever work for ITV again.

The presenter had co-hosted This Morning for 15 years prior to his exit in December and now presents the daily breakfast show on GB News.

Eamonn and wife Ruth Langsford presented the ITV daytime show every Friday, but there was a shake up in 2020 that saw the gig handed to new presenting duo Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond, with Eamonn and Ruth being moved to school holiday cover.

Eamonn addressed his exit in a new interview with The Mirror, where he hinted at backstage tensions with “one or two” people that would prevent him from working at the broadcaster in future.

He also said he has not watched any of the show since leaving, saying: “It would be too… sensitive. I mean, I spend every day going out on the street and people saying, ‘Why are you and Ruth not on any more?’”

Eamonn also reiterated that he wished to know more about conversations that were supposedly happening behind the scenes.

“I wish somebody would show me the email or the letter or that I was sent to say, ‘Eamonn, this is why this is coming to an end’,” Eamonn said.

“But to tell lies, that I left them to go to GB News…I didn’t – they left me. Let’s get it straight. They left me. I don’t care, because our audience is only up.”

An ITV spokesperson previously disputed that they had made it look as if Eamonn had “walked away from them, rather than the other way round”.

“This isn’t a version of events that we recognise and as we have said before we wish Eamonn all of the very best,” a rep said.

When Eamonn’s exit was first announced, a rep for ITV said: “We would like to wish Eamonn all of the very best in his new role. As a duo, Eamonn and Ruth have been part of the This Morning presenting team for the last 15 years and we thank Eamonn for all of his hard work and contribution to the show.”

Eamonn previously said of the move shortly before his GB News debut: “Put it this way, I’m looking forward to a move somewhere new where they’re pleased to have me. But I wish everyone well at ITV.”

He also said that despite receiving messages of good wishes from some of his breakfast show rivals, he hadn’t heard from former co-stars Phil and Holly.

He later branded Phillip “passive aggressive” over an incident in 2019 in which he cut Ruth short during a live link, reportedly sparking long-standing tension between the two.

“Phillip is renowned for snubbing people,” he claimed. “He’s very passive-aggressive. It’s up to Ruth to say how she felt, but I was feeling hurt for her.

“No one would have snubbed me like that. I have a good Belfast street fighter in me… I would be direct. I don’t go for presenters who think they have a special privilege or aura or influence.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.

Janette Manrara Accidentally Kicks Dog In The Head After It Tries To Get Involved In Strictly Routine

Dr James Greenwood was a guest on the BBC daytime show on Tuesday morning, where he was joined by his two labradors Dolly and Olly for a pet-themed segment.

However, Dolly appeared keen to get involved in another item later in the show, when former Strictly pro dancer Janette and her husband Aljaž Škorjanec led a Strictly Fitness feature.

Unfortunately for Dolly, she approached Janette and Aljaž just as they were performing a spin to see out the programme, with Janette’s foot making contact with the pooch’s head.

Audible sounds could be heard from others in the studio, before the show’s title card flashed up on screen.

Luckily, Dolly was okay with owner Dr James replying to concerned viewers on Twitter after the episode aired.

“She is totally fine! Getting stuck into a chew stick on the way home,” he tweeted.

He added: “I can confirm she is 100% all good. No harm done.”

Morning Live airs weekdays at 9.15am on BBC One.
