Piers Morgan Opens Up About ‘Difficult’ TV ‘Divorce’ From Susanna Reid

Piers Morgan has reflected on his “difficult” TV “divorce” from former Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid.

In March 2021, Piers announced that he would be stepping down as host of GMB with immediate effect, after five years with the breakfast TV show.

His exit came at a time the divisive presenter was embroiled in controversy, having just a day earlier made headlines for casting doubt on claims made by Meghan Markle that she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior member of the Royal Family.

Now gearing up for the launch of his own TalkTV show, Piers has spoken about how his departure affected his relationship with his former “TV wife”.

Speaking at a press event to promote his nightly show Piers Morgan Uncensored, he explained: “It’s difficult, you know. We had this arranged marriage, which turned out to be very successful. And then we suddenly got divorced one afternoon. And that was it! Gone!

“I went from seeing Susanna Reid in her curlers and her nightie every day at four in the morning to not seeing her. We stay in touch through texting and stuff, but it was all a bit dramatic and sad, really. I think we both feel that.”

He continued: “We both felt like we had one of the great on-screen chemistries and it all got ended, in my opinion, in a rather silly way. But [ITV’s] loss is going to be TalkTV’s gain.”

Last month, Susanna spoke out about her continued friendship with Piers, insisting: “He’s a really important person in my life. We had such an amazing time and that was an incredible dynamic.”

“We went through some really difficult times together as a team and those were very powerful moments,” she continued. “And when it came to the lockdown, the pandemic and holding the government to account, he was just unrivalled at holding their feet to the fire, but then it ended.”

Susanna added: “He’s a friend of mine and that won’t change.”

“Effectively I was censored at my previous job,” he claimed. ”[I was] told to apologise to Meghan Markle for an honestly-held opinion, which obviously I wasn’t going to do.”

Piers Morgan Brands Good Morning Britain Exit ‘Absurd’, ‘Ridiculous’ And ‘A Farce’

Piers Morgan has reflected on his departure from Good Morning Britain last year, as he prepares for the launch of his new nightly show on TalkTV.

After five years at the helm of GMB, Piers announced suddenly in March 2021 that he would be stepping down as host with immediate effect.

News of his exit came the day after he made headlines for casting doubt on claims made by Meghan Markle that she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior member of the Royal Family, with Piers’ remark eventually inciting a record number of complaints to Ofcom.

More recently, it was confirmed that Piers has reunited with his former employer Rupert Murdoch, to front a nightly show on TalkTV which will begin later this month.

During a press event to promote his show Piers Morgan Uncensored, the divisive broadcaster was asked about his exit from GMB, which he branded “ridiculous”, “absurd” and “a farce”.

“I used to think that I was uncensored,” he claimed. “And then, of course, when I left Good Morning Britain it turned out that I actually was being censored, in the sense that I was told I had to apologise for disbelieving Princess Pinochio, or I would have to leave the building. So I took the ‘leave the building’ option.”

He described the decision as a “sad moment” for himself, the show and his “poor TV wife” Susanna Reid, joking: “It was a very dramatic divorce. And I thought it was the wrong call by ITV.

“They had the hottest show on TV, it had just beaten the BBC to become the number one-rated breakfast show in the country. I wasn’t expecting a carriage clock, but I wasn’t expecting to be escorted out of the building. So it was all a bit dramatic.”

He continued: “It’s interesting to me that Ofcom, the government-appointed TV regulator, five months later, found in my favour, and said that it would have been a chilling infringement on my rights to free speech had I not been able to say, ‘I don’t believe somebody’. So the whole thing seemed to me a bit ridiculous.”

As complaints about Piers’ conduct flooded in to Ofcom, it was reported that the Duchess of Sussex had also filed an official complaint to ITV, which the former Britain’s Got Judge has now blasted as an example of “cancel culture”.

He said: “The moment you try and get me fired, as Megan Markle did on Good Morning Britain, where she personally writes to the boss of ITV and demands my head on a plate, that is cancel culture right there. And the idea that ITV rolled over to it is ridiculous.

“But that’s why I’m here, and I feel, in a way, grateful to them, because I think this is a very exciting new platform and opportunity.”

“The mystery about the ITV thing was that I was hired specifically to have strongly-held opinions,” he added. “So, that’s why I felt the way I had to leave in the end was so absurd. And the more you look back on it, the more you go, ‘what was that all about?’.

“I thought the whole thing was a farce, and I’m delighted that as a result of the farce, we’ve ended up with a whole network that is now dedicated to preventing that kind of farce from recurring.”

Making a somewhat questionable comparison, Piers added that he felt “like Nelson Mandela when he came out of prison”, joking: “It’s like the long walk to free speech freedom.”

Piers went on to insist that he would not be “looking to steal Good Morning Britain viewers”, before throwing some shade at the daytime TV show, which has brought in a string of rotating guest hosts since Piers’ exit.

“I would be looking to pick up all those who’ve stopped watching [GMB],” he claimed. “Which, judging by when I walk around and judging by their ratings, is a lot of people.

“So if you loved Good Morning Britain when I was on it, and you miss me in that way, you know where to find me. There are a lot of people who I think were annoyed about what went down. And they’d be the ones I’d be after.”

Since stepping down from GMB over a year ago, Piers has made a number of seemingly conflicting comments about the nature of his exit.

The morning after the news of his exit, Piers told reporters: “I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree. I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go.

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it,” he added at the time.

“Effectively I was censored at my previous job,” he claimed. “[I was] told to apologise to Meghan Markle for an honestly-held opinion, which obviously I wasn’t going to do.”

Piers Morgan Opens Up About ‘Bruising’ Good Morning Britain Exit

Piers Morgan has spoken out about his much-publicised exit from Good Morning Britain, admitting he found his departure a “bruising” experience.

The former daytime star quit GMB in March 2021, after casting doubt on claims made by Meghan Markle that she had experienced suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior member of the Royal Family.

He announced he was immediately stepping down on the same night Ofcom announced they would be launching an investigation about his remarks, with the TV watchdog eventually receiving a record number of complaints about the incident, including one from the Duchess herself.

Ofcom ruled six months later that the broadcast was not in breach of their code, with Piers having now landed new roles as a presenter on an upcoming talkTV show and a columnist in The Sun.

Speaking to the tabloid a week before the launch of his column, Piers said: “The column is called Uncensored because it does what it says on the tin.

“Effectively I was censored at my previous job and told to apologise to Meghan Markle for an honestly-held opinion, which obviously I wasn’t going to do.”

Alongside a few predictable jibes at the Duchess of Sussex, Piers added: “It was a pretty bruising experience on Good Morning Britain but I’m now working somewhere where I’m free to express my opinions.”

HuffPost UK has contacted ITV for comment.

Since he stepped down from GMB in March 2021 – following his infamous walk-off live on air – Piers has made a number of seemingly conflicting comments about the nature of his exit.

The morning after the news of his exit, Piers told reporters: “I had a good chat with ITV and we agreed to disagree. I’m just going to take it easy and see how we go.”

“If I have to fall on my sword for expressing an honestly-held opinion about Meghan Markle and that diatribe of bilge that she came out with in that interview, so be it,” he added t the time.

After it was reported that Piers would not be invited back to GMB despite Ofcom’s ruling that his comments were not in breach of their code, the divisive presenter then insisted he wouldn’t return even if he were asked – unless ITV were to apologise to him publicly.

Piers hailed the ruling as a “resounding victory for free speech”, later telling reporters that job offers had “accelerated” since Ofcom’s decision.

I have had loads of offers and they have accelerated in the last 10 hours, as you can imagine,” he explained.

“I will take my free speech campaign around the world and all I require is to have an employer who believes in it as passionately as I do.”

Noting that GMB’s ratings during his tenure as host made him a “valuable commodity”, Piers continued: “I’m considering some very interesting offers right now and I will make a decision quite soon.”

Piers Morgan Reveals He Caught Coronavirus Watching Euros Final At Wembley

Piers Morgan has revealed he thinks he caught coronavirus while watching England play in the Euro 2020 final at Wembley.

The journalist and television presenter told the Mail on Sunday he contracted Covid despite being double vaccinated.

In a post on Twitter, he said it has been “a long ten days”.

He added: “Yes, it’s certainly been one of the more interesting (and unnerving…) experiences of my life, but it gave my a new perspective on covid, vaccines & where we are.”

Writing in his column for the newspaper, Morgan said he thinks he caught the virus during England’s Euro 2020 final defeat to Italy.

“My confidence that the event would be ‘covid safe’ had disintegrated,” he said.

“It was turning into an unregulated free-for-all.”

According to the newspaper, he began to feel unwell two days after the match and subsequently tested positive for the virus.

“As I’m sure everyone who gets it feels, it’s a strange, disquieting moment to know I have this killer virus inside me,” he said.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter added that coronavirus is “definitely the roughest I’ve felt from any illness in my adult life”.

“I’m still here – unlike so many millions around the world who’ve lost their lives to Covid in this pandemic,” Morgan said.

“For that, I owe a heartfelt debt of thanks to the brilliant scientists up in Oxford who created the Astra-Zeneca vaccine with such astonishing speed.”

Davina McCall Deletes Tweet About ‘Stiff’ Princess Diana Statue After Agreeing With Piers Morgan Over Sculpture

Davina McCall appeared to backtrack after criticising the recently unveiled statue of Princess Diana, which she had described as “stiff”.

The sculpture, created by Ian Rank-Broadley, was unveiled by Princes William and Harry at the Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace on Thursday.

After Piers Morgan tweeted his dislike of the statue, Davina agreed, tweeting: “I really wanted to like it. But somehow… it doesn’t feel very Diana? Her joie de vivre… her radiance, her compassion. It feels stiff.”

Davina has since deleted the tweet, which hasn’t gone unnoticed by Piers.

“Bullied & abused by the woke #BeKind brigade into deleting an honestly-held and entirely accurate opinion. Suffice it to say, I won’t be deleting my statue critique – because it’s true,” he tweeted on Saturday.

Davina and Piers aren’t the only stars who are not fans of the tribute to the late Princess of Wales.

Lorraine Kelly has also let her feelings known, saying she believed it didn’t do Diana “justice”.

“Can I just say, I don’t really like it,” Lorraine said on her daytime show on Friday..

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what you think, but I don’t really like the outfit.”

Lorraine said that she liked the “strength” that the statue gives off, as the late princess “looks very strong”, but added: “I just don’t think it does her justice.

“Of course, it was all about the boys and if they’re happy, then that’s fine,’ Lorraine said of William and Harry.

“Maybe it looks better in real life. I have to reserve judgement until I can see it for myself.”

The bronze statue shows Diana surrounded by three children and is said to be based on the final period of her life as she gained confidence in her role as a humanitarian ambassador.

It aims to convey “her character and compassion”, Kensington Palace said.

William and Harry said in a joint statement on the day: “Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60 birthday, we remember her love, strength and character – qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better.

“Every day, we wish she were still with us, and our hope is that this statue will be seen forever as a symbol of her life and her legacy.”

Lorraine Kelly Has A Prediction About Piers Morgan And Good Morning Britain

Lorraine Kelly has said she has “no doubt” Piers Morgan will be back on Good Morning Britain.

The ITV presenter has spoken out amid speculation Piers could return to the channel’s breakfast show after making an abrupt exit earlier this year.

Speaking to The Sun, Lorraine said: “He will be back in some shape or form, I have no doubt. I know nothing, but never count him out of anything.

Despite Piers’ controversial public profile, Lorraine maintains he is actually a big softie.

She said: “I have a lot of time for him. He’s very kind to me. He goes crazy when I say this – he doesn’t like me doing it – but he’s actually a really nice guy.

“He says to me ‘will you stop saying that I’m a nice person because it’s very bad for my brand’. That makes me want to do it even more!”

Piers Morgan’s Wife Admits She Used To ‘Bitch’ About Him With Susanna Reid Behind His Back

Piers Morgan’s wife Celia Walden has admitted that she used to “bitch” about her husband with his former Good Morning Britain co-host Susanna Reid.

Celia also revealed that she thinks Susanna – who was often described as Piers’ ‘long-suffering on-screen wife’ – did “the whole wife thing” better than her because she knew how to “manage” the divisive presenter.

Speaking to The Sun, Celia revealed: “We used to bitch about him behind his back together. In fact, I always felt she was better at the whole ‘wife’ thing than me. She was very good at managing him.”

Celia, who married Piers in 2010, also revealed what it was like living with Piers since he was axed from his job on GMB.

“Well, I always think of that famous quote, ‘Behind every great man, there’s a woman rolling her eyes’ — I am that woman,” she said.

“Being married to Piers is basically one very long eye roll. But what people don’t realise about Piers is that he’s usually very quiet at home because he’s exhausted himself on whatever interview he’s been doing.

“This is the only reason I am sad about him leaving GMB — well, that and the fact I wake up and there he is, staring back at me morning after morning.

“But really, he used to come back and by 9am was absolutely flattened, lying there on the sofa, catatonic, not bothering anyone.”

She added: “Unfortunately he’s got all his energy back now. Please, someone, just give him a job!

“But what’s extraordinary is that before it really was that Marmite thing with him — a split between those who loved or loathed him.

“But recently the attention has been 99.9 per cent positive. It’s been like walking around with a national treasure. Very odd.”

Piers Morgan To Grill Keir Starmer In Special Episode Of Life Stories

Piers Morgan has announced he’s set to interview Labour leader Keir Starmer as part of a special episode of his ITV talk show Life Stories.

The hour-long interview is set to be filmed next month, and will cover the leader of the opposition’s childhood and career in law, as well as the past year of leading the Labour party in lockdown.

Following the announcement, Piers said: “It’s very unusual for party political leaders to submit themselves to such lengthy personal interviews and I am delighted that Sir Keir has agreed to talk to me about his fascinating life.

“It promises to be a memorable and very revealing Life Stories show.”

ITV’s head of entertainment, Katie Rawcliffe said the forthcoming interview “promises to be a real treat for our ITV audience.”

There’s no official airdate for Starmer’s episode of Life Stories yet, but ITV has said it will air “in the coming months”

Starmer’s interview will be the first with a party leader on Piers’ show since the broadcaster interviewed Gordon Brown when he was prime minister in 2010.

Sharon Osbourne Leaves US Show The Talk Following Heated On-Air Discussion About Piers Morgan And Racism

Sharon Osbourne has left US chat show The Talk following a heated on-air discussion about racism.

It came after her friend Piers Morgan left Good Morning Britain following comments he made about Meghan Markle.

The Talk has been off air while CBS investigated the incident and has now announced Sharon has left the programme.

It said her behaviour during the 10 March episode “did not align with our values for a respectful workplace”.

In a statement obtained by the PA news agency, it said: “Sharon Osbourne has decided to leave The Talk.

“The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home.

“As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behaviour toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace.”

Responding to Sharon’s claims she had been set up by producers, CBS said: “We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts.”

However, CBS said it acknowledges the network, studio teams and producers are “accountable for what happened during that broadcast” because “it was clear the co-hosts were not properly prepared by the staff for a complex and sensitive discussion involving race”.

CBS said during The Talk’s hiatus it will coordinate “workshops, listening sessions and training about equity, inclusion and cultural awareness for the hosts, producers and crew”.

It added: “Going forward, we are identifying plans to enhance the producing staff and producing procedures to better serve the hosts, the production and, ultimately, our viewers.”

The Talk is set to return to US screens on Monday 12 April.

The former X Factor judge has been contacted for comment.

Sharon’s future on The Talk was thrown into doubt after she clashed with co-host Sheryl Underwood, during a discussion about Piers’ comments on Meghan’s recent interview with Oprah Winfrey.

He was criticised for saying he does not believe the duchess after she revealed she had suffered with her mental health and had suicidal thoughts.

During a heated discussion, Sharon said: “I feel even like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend who many people think is a racist so that makes me a racist.”

Sharon confronted co-host Sheryl, who is Black, and told her “don’t try and cry, because if anyone should be crying, it should be me”.

She added: “You tell me where you have heard him say, educate me, tell me when you have heard him say racist things.

“Educate me. Tell me.”

Sheryl said it was “not the exact words of racism” but “the implication and the reaction to it, to not want to address that because she is a Black woman and to try to dismiss it or to make it seem less than what it is, that’s what makes it racist”.

Sharon, wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne, later said she was “truly sorry” if she caused offence with her comments.

She gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight and alleged she had not been sufficiently prepared for the conversation by producers.

Sharon said her co-hosts “had preparation, they had written questions for them” but she was only approached eight minutes before filming began and was asked if she was OK with discussing Piers.

She told ET she felt she had been “set up,” adding: “My anger was like, I cannot believe this, I’m your sacrificial lamb.”
