Princess Anne Shares First Statement Following Hospitalisation

The Princess Royal was supposed to go to Canada this week to mark the 100th anniversary of the Newfoundland National War Memorial, but instead sent a personal message expressing her remorse for being unable to attend the transatlantic engagement.

“It is with deep regret that I am unable to be with you today, as you commemorate the brave efforts and sacrifices of the members of the Newfoundland Regiment who went into battle on the first day of the Somme,” Anne said in a statement relayed by Mary Simon, the governor general of Canada, on Monday.

“I have fond memories of joining you in 2016, on the 99th occasion that the people of this Island commemorated the Battle of Beaumont Hamel, and I am deeply saddened that I’m unable to join you again,” the royal said, before signing off with her “warmest best wishes on this special day of commemoration.”

Buckingham Palace issued a statement last Monday revealing that the 73-year-old had “sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening.”

The palace assured the public that she was hospitalised “as a precautionary measure” and was “expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

No set timetable has been announced for when the princess will return to royal duties.

Kate Middleton And Prince William Celebrate Father’s Day With Sweet New Photo

The picture showed William and Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis standing with their backs turned to the camera, looking out at the beach.

“We love you, Papa,” the caption read. “Happy Father’s Day 💕 G, C & L.”

The photo was taken by the Princess of Wales earlier this year.

In addition to the photo of William and his children, the future king also shared a photo for his dad, King Charles.

“Happy Father’s Day, Pa” the caption said, which William signed “W.”

Kate revealed on Friday that she was attending the celebrations this weekend in a deeply personal message about her chemotherapy treatments.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she said in her message. “On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting.”

“But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well. My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months,” Kate went on, adding that she is “taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.”

Prince William assured royal followers during an outing on Tuesday that all is well at home.

During a surprise walkabout after an engagement in Newcastle upon Tyne, the Prince of Wales spoke with a concerned fan who asked how he and his family were doing.

“Do you mind if I ask how you and the children are?” a woman in a Union Jack hat and cape asked the prince.

“All doing well ― thank you. Yes, we’re doing well,” William answered in a clip captured by the Daily Mail, as the woman asked about William’s wife, Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales.

“We’re all doing well,” William reiterated, before complimenting the woman’s companion on part of her patriotic outfit.

It was the first update William has shared since Kate announced her cancer diagnosis in a March video, following months of speculation about her health.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous,” Kate said in the video, adding that her surgery was “successful.”

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present,” she explained. “My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Kate began chemotherapy in February. She did not specify what kind of cancer she has, or its severity.

The palace said at the time that it would provide no further updates on Kate’s health.

“The Princess has a right to medical privacy, as we all do,” a spokesperson said.

William and Kate recently celebrated a happy milestone together, marking their 13th wedding anniversary on Monday with a never-before-seen photo.

The black-and-white portrait was taken by photographer Millie Pilkington.

“13 years ago today!” the couple captured their photo.

Bob Odenkirk might’ve spoken too soon in denouncing monarchs.

On an upcoming episode of the PBS series Finding Your Roots, the Better Call Saul star is stunned upon learning that he has royal ancestry, according to a Monday preview in Rolling Stone.

Host Henry Louis Gates Jr reveals on the show that Odenkirk’s sixth great-grandfather was Germany’s Duke of Plön, who was related to the royal families of Europe. But the actor is quick to assert that he’s “not a monarchist”.

“I’m an American,” Odenkirk says in a teaser clip. “I don’t believe in, uh, that. You know, I feel like it’s a little twisted.”

He adds: “I understand why society built itself around monarchs and leaders. … But I think that we’ve gotten to a better place with democracy, and we should keep going down that road.”

It’s at that moment that an excited Gates primes Odenkirk for a follow-up revelation, saying: “You and King Charles III are 11th cousins.”

The actor is initially at a complete loss for words before guffawing — and cheekily reassessing his stance.

“Well, maybe I’ll change my mind on that,” quips Odenkirk. “Oh, that is crazy!”

Gates’ team of genealogical researchers went back generations to trace Odenkirk’s lineage to a fifth great-grandfather named Friedrich Carl Steinholz, who was born out of wedlock in 1755 and fathered by the Duke of Plön.

Royal families commonly intermarried to maintain political alliances, which helps explain how Odenkirk is distantly connected to the British crown.

When Gates asks how Odenkirk feels about “all of this”, the actor appears grateful.

“Like I’m part of history that I didn’t think I was any part of,” he answers.

Buckingham Palace Gives Update On The Queen’s Health After Death Hoax Circulates

Buckingham Palace has released another update regarding Queen Elizabeth’s health.

The palace said on Wednesday that the queen, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday, held her weekly telephone audience with prime minister Boris Johnson.

The news of the queen’s call followed the US blog Hollywood Unlocked’s false “exclusive” claim that the Queen died on Tuesday, which quickly circulated on social media. The false claim, made on the site’s Instagram page, has yet to be taken down by the blog.

The queen’s positive Covid-19 test came just days after her son, Prince Charles, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, also tested positive. The statement from the palace over the weekend said the queen was “experiencing mild cold like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week”.

The queen cancelled virtual engagements on Tuesday, as the palace said she was “still experiencing mild cold-like symptoms”, but would still “continue with light duties”.

The latest news about the queen’s health comes after questions were raised in October, when the sovereign cancelled a planned engagement to Northern Ireland the day of the trip.

Buckingham Palace said at the time that the queen had “reluctantly accepted medical advice to rest for the next few days”.

The Sun later published a piece on the monarch’s hospitalisation, prompting the palace to confirm her hospital stay for “preliminary investigations.”

The queen held a virtual appointment the following week, though she cancelled an in-person appearance at the United Nations climate change conference, COP20.

In late October, the palace released another statement on Queen Elizabeth’s health, saying that she was intent in making an in-person appearance at the National Service of Remembrance on November 14.

The queen was unable to attend the service, though, missing it due to a sprained back.

Charles talked about his mother’s health just a few days later, telling press during a trip to Jordan that the sovereign was doing “all right”.

“Once you get to 95, it’s not quite as easy as it used to be,” the Prince of Wales told Sky News royal correspondent Rhiannon Mills in November. “It’s bad enough at 73.”

Earthshot: Who Are The Winners And How Do They Plan To Save The Planet?

Saving the planet from the harsh effects of climate change is everyone’s job. And now, the Earthshot prize is here to reward those creating the most innovative solutions.

Created by the Duke of Cambridge, the awards present a £1 million prize to five projects working to combat the climate crisis.

The inaugural event took place on Sunday, attended by celebrities who did not fly to the event in London, and who were asked to consider the environment when choosing an outfit.

In a pre-recorded video for the ceremony, Prince William said: “We are alive in the most consequential time in human history. The actions we choose or choose not to take in the next 10 years will determine the fate of the planet for the next thousand.

“A decade doesn’t seem long, but humankind has an outstanding record of being able to solve the unsolvable. The future is ours to determine. And if we set our minds to it, nothing is impossible.”

The winners – decided by judges David Attenborough, Cate Blanchett and singer Shakira – were chosen from five different categories, from a shortlist of 15 entrees.

The Earthshot prize was started by the Duke of Cambridge.

Build a Waste-Free World:

The City of Milan Food Waste Hubs, Italy: Food poverty is real around the world, while waste is a huge problem. The city of Milan has found a way around it, collecting unused food and giving it to the poor. This scheme has dramatically cut waste while also tackling hunger.

Fix our Climate:

AEM Electrolyser, Thailand/Germany/Italy: Hydrogen is usually produced by burning fossil fuels. But a new design in Thailand is using renewable energy to make hydrogen by splitting wanter into hydrogen and oxygen.

The Duchess of Cambridge recycled an old outfit for the awards, while humanitarian and actress Emma Watson sported a dress made out of 10 different outfits from Oxfam.

The stage was also erected without using any plastic while the music was powered by 60 cyclists pedalling on bikes.

The award got its name after being inspired by former US president JFK’s project ‘Moonshot’ to get a man on the moon within the decade.

Emma Watson wore a dress made out of ten Oxfam outfits.

Prince William hopes that with the launch of the prize, more young people will be interested in getting involved in climate action.

He tweeted: “I want to say something to all the young people watching tonight: For too long, we haven’t done enough to protect the planet for your future. But Earthshot is for you. In the next 10 years we are going to act. We are going to find the solutions to repair our planet.”

The ceremony took place just two weeks before the COP26 UN Climate Change summit happening in Glasgow with world leaders.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle honoured Prince Philip on their foundation’s website on Friday, hours after the news broke that Harry’s grandfather had died at 99.

“Thank you for your service,” read a statement on the Archewell Foundation’s site. “You will be greatly missed.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who do not have active social media accounts anymore, joined the rest of the royal family in remembering the Duke of Edinburgh through a website tribute.

The royal family’s main site went dark shortly after news of Philip’s death was announced. It also included a photo and a statement on behalf of members of the royal family and Queen Elizabeth, who was married to Philip for over 70 years.

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” the announcement said. “His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

“Further announcements will be made in due course,” the statement continued. “The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton also changed their Twitter images and Twitter header photos to mark Philip’s passing, as did Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall’s Clarence House and The Royal Family’s main account:

The royal family issued guidance about the duke’s “modified funeral” due to the coronavirus pandemic and said that the media and public will have more information in the coming days.

“In accordance with public health advice, members of the public are asked to continue to follow the current government guidance, not to gather in crowds, and not to visit Royal residences to pay their respects,” Buckingham Palace said on Friday regarding funeral arrangements.

“During this time the Royal Family ask that members of the public consider making a donation to a charity instead of leaving floral tributes in memory of The Duke of Edinburgh. An online book of condolence for those who wish to leave messages is available on this website.”

It is likely that Prince Harry will return to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral, People magazine reported.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle have confirmed they will not be returning as working members of the royal family.

The announcement comes 12 months after they said they wanted to quit as senior royals.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have confirmed to Her Majesty The Queen that they will not be returning as working members of the royal family.

“Following conversations with the duke, the Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of the royal family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service. The honorary military appointments and royal patronages held by the Duke and Duchess will therefore be returned to Her Majesty, before being redistributed among working members of the royal family.

“While all are saddened by their decision, the duke and duchess remain much loved members of the family.”

A spokesperson for Harry and Meghan said: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role.

“We can all live a life of service. Service is universal.”

The decision was made after conversations between Harry and members of the royal family.

Sky News raised eyebrows by accidentally tweeting that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Kate, had quit the royal family, which would have been considerably more surprising.

The military, Commonwealth and charitable associations whose patronages will revert to the Queen are the Royal Marines, RAF Honington, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving, the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, The Rugby Football Union, The Rugby Football League, The Royal National Theatre and The Association of Commonwealth Universities.

Harry and Meghan released their shock statement on January 8, 2020, saying they intended to step down and become financially independent, but still support the Queen – a dual role that in the end was unworkable.

They have settled into a new life in the US away from the monarchy secured lucrative multimillion-pound deals with both Netflix and Spotify and established their Archewell foundation.
