Robert De Niro Pulls No Punches As He Tears Into ‘Clown’ Donald Trump

Robert De Niro, one of Donald Trump’s most vocal Hollywood critics, has once again spoken out against the former president.

During the latest instalment of Who’s Talking To Chris Wallace?, the two-time Oscar winner was asked about Trump’s current presidential bid, ahead of the US election later this year.

Do you really worry that if he were to win again… that he would not give up power?” the host asked, to which De Niro responded: “You know he won’t. He even said it. He’s never going to give it up. And anybody who deludes themselves into thinking that he is, shame on you.”

As the conversation progressed, the Godfather star was asked if his and Trump’s paths ever crossed in the 70s and 80s, when they were both running in certain New York circles.

“No. I never wanted anything to do with him,” he insisted. “He’s a jerk, an idiot, who wants to meet a clown like that?”

He continued: “You’ve got to help everybody. People are going to get overlooked. That happens, but at least you have somebody who’s sensitive to the condition of the country, the people. And I’m not saying this like this, because it’s Kamala Harris, but it is. We need someone like her to do it.

“She’ll make mistakes. Of course, everybody does, but we need somebody with the right intentions. This guy has does not have the right intentions, and everybody knows that. It’s insanity. Period.”

Earlier this year, De Niro made headlines when he branded Trump “crazy” and accused him of wanting to “destroy” the United States.

Prior to that, he made an appearance outside the courthouse where Trump was facing trial – and later found guilty on all charges of falsifying business documents to cover up an alleged affair with pornographic film performer Stormy Daniels shortly before the 2016 presidential election – and called the former US leader a “monster” and a “tyrant”.

True to form, Trump wasted no time in firing back at the veteran star on his own social media site Truth Social.

Austin Butler Passed On Smoking Pot With Snoop Dogg While Hanging Out With This Film Icon

During a stop on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week, the Elvis actor was asked for the story behind photos of him and the Oscar winner hanging out at the rapper’s Malibu home in March.

“That was wild,” he said of the Instagram snapshot posted by Snoop’s son Cordell Broadus.

“A mutual friend said, ‘Do you want to come … have tacos with Snoop Dogg and Robert De Niro?’ and I dropped everything, and I was there in a heartbeat.”

Host Jimmy Kimmel had to ask Austin if Snoop, a seasoned pot smoker, “offered” him “anything” to toke on during the get-together.

“He had it there,” the actor admitted. “I was so nervous to get too high and try to talk to my hero Robert De Niro, so I refrained.”

Austin has long talked about his admiration for De Niro.

“The dedication that he had to that part is so endlessly inspiring to me,” he wrote.

“The freedom that I see when I watch him, the subtlety that he can have, and then, moments of explosion. … I cannot take my eyes off of him.”

Reese Witherspoon Totally Blew An Audition With Robert De Niro Over One Big Mistake

Reese Witherspoon has recalled a disastrous audition with Robert De Niro, saying it was so bad the Hollywood legend remembered it a decade later.

Talking about her early career on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Reese brought up the tryout she had at age 14 for Cape Fear, the 1991 drama featuring De Niro as a psychopath.

She remembered walking into the room where De Niro and director Martin Scorsese were waiting. She said she was already rattled by the receptionist proclaiming of De Niro right before: “You know he’s the most important actor of our time.”

When it came time to act opposite De Niro, the Legally Blonde star said she couldn’t remember a word in the script and “he had to say the word for me … he had to finish the lines for me.”

She couldn’t recall the word in question but remembered being mortified 10 years later when she again tried out with the Raging Bull star.

“I thought, he’s never gonna remember that I bricked that audition,” Reese said. “And he’s like, ‘I remember you .. You’re the one who couldn’t say the word.’”

“Oh my god, this is so bad,” she said to herself.

Reese, who won an Oscar for Walk The Line, has told the anecdote before, but it bears repeating as a funny lesson of hope for aspiring thespians out there.

And it should be noted that she was actually slated to star opposite De Niro in the 2015 comedy The Intern, but Anne Hathaway reportedly replaced her because Reese had a scheduling conflict.

Her latest project is the Netflix movie Your Place Or Mine, which begins streaming on Feb. 10.
